Courtyard by Marriott Cleveland Westlake

The staff were really nice, which I appreciated, but for $200 a night I’d choose somewhere else. There was toothpaste left on the wallpaper, and the showerhead was so dirty it was disgusting to see. That made me wonder what else management might be missing. I don’t blame housekeeping alone, but think management and ownership should hold people accountable and inspect every room regularly. The sink had no drain cover, the 32-inch “HDTV” was tiny, and the window had no sheer curtain, leaving you in darkness or feeling exposed to people looking in. Courtyard stays can be hit or miss, and this property felt very worn.

There was no complimentary breakfast or in-room microwave, and the whole hotel felt dated and worn. Staff seemed dismissive about the problems. We couldn’t get the Wi-Fi working, even after they gave us an 1-800 number to call, and the AC/heat controls wouldn’t adjust either the temperature or fan. Most outlets didn’t work, the light under the TV was out, and we had to move the couch completely to pull out the bed beside the queen bed. My child found three different pills by our bed, plus gummy bears and M&Ms in the bedroom and bathroom. At the pool, our other child found a cup of liquor and a beer bottle, with no one else in the pool room. For this price, I could’ve stayed a whole week at a motel and had a better visit.

The service was friendly and personable, but we won’t stay here again. We came from out of town for my medical procedure and didn’t raise the problems while we were there because we needed somewhere to rest before surgery. For what we paid, the room wasn’t worth it. There was mold and mildew in the bathroom, a dirty tub, and the shampoo bottles stuck to the tub’s side kept falling off. One was already off when we arrived. The heating unit was dangling near the floor, and a nightstand outlet pulled out when I unplugged my phone charger. The TVs were small, there were no in-room phones, and I couldn’t find an alarm clock. The beds weren’t comfortable either. Someone smoking in the elevator left the whole second floor smelling of cigarettes. There were clumps of hair in the pool and hair on one of our pillowcases. For a Marriott, this was the worst one I’ve been in. It just wasn’t worth the money.

We only stayed because the location was convenient after a long day and my 7-hour drive. Changing hotels felt like too much hassle, but we won’t be back. The woman checking us in seemed visibly high, with track marks and bruises on her neck and hands. Her conversation was hard to follow, she kept forgetting what she was doing, and check-in dragged on. The pool looked cloudy and dirty, though the hot tub was HOT. In our room, there were coffee stains on the walls from previous guests, and the bed was extremely firm and uncomfortable. There aren’t vents in the bathrooms, but the air and heat in room 334 worked well. Restaurants are an easy walk across the parking lot, and the woman at the on-site restaurant was very friendly. Good enough for sleeping, I guess.
