Johnique, the manager, is the reason I’d consider coming back. After I got no response from the front desk on our first night, I spoke to her the next morning. She listened, was kind and helpful, and even seemed to be pitching in at the valet line. That service saved the day for me. We’re already planning another visit, and I’d like to try the steakhouse then. My boyfriend and I were at the Horseshoe Casino Hotel for Valentine’s weekend. The place was very clean and looked luxurious. Our room on the 8th floor had a pool view, plus the parking lot and bridges were visible. The room itself was lovely. We ate at the breakfast spot, whose name I can’t remember. The food was good, and the pancakes were enormous. You get two, and they were the biggest I’ve ever seen. Staff service around the hotel was great overall. At the casino, though, we both lost each night, lol. That first-night issue and the lack of a front desk response are why I stopped short of five stars.

I keep coming back, even though the rooms are hot every time and I still sweat all night. I’ve started bringing my own fan, but it doesn’t solve it. I wish they’d overhaul the air conditioning instead of trying to save a few pennies by keeping the rooms from getting cold enough for people like me who need it really cold. The rest of the room is great: spacious, very clean, with soft beds and huge bathrooms and showers. I love that the toilet is behind its own closed door, separate from the rest of the bathroom. Check-in is quick and easy, with a smile.

We celebrated my birthday here for the first time a week ago and had a lot of fun. Everyone was welcoming and excited about my birthday. I liked the range of slot games, though they didn’t have enough of the ones I wanted. We found a few we really enjoyed anyway. The pizza place inside served pretty good food, and the quick service was appreciated. We haven’t tried staying at the hotel yet, but plan to. It was a really positive visit and we can’t wait to return.

The hotel and casino looked nice and were clean, but finding food was a real problem. In the morning, Dunkin Donuts seemed to be the only breakfast option. I couldn’t believe it was a donut or nothing. I wasn’t asking for free breakfast, just somewhere to get breakfast. There weren’t many restaurants open, and food choices overall were very limited. Aside from pizza and donuts, there wasn’t much. We had to use Uber to get food for every meal.

The road construction made getting there difficult, and it didn’t look close to finished. That added to an already disappointing visit. The facility itself is gorgeous, with a nice river view, though you also see gas factory pipes and smoke, lol. We didn’t stay overnight, just gambled. The gaming floor is huge, but there are so few slot machines that a basketball game could fit in the empty space. I played two machines and broke even, so this isn’t a bad review because I lost. This was my second visit, and my opinion hasn’t changed: if you’re an average slot player and not a high roller, it may not be worth your time. A nearby gas station might have more games, though that’s an exaggeration. Seeing all that empty floor is laughable. It seems geared toward high rollers playing cards or craps. I got the impression that Riprap and the everyday Joe aren’t welcome, though maybe that’s what they want. They’ve succeeded with us. Only people with lots of money they don’t mind giving away might make this their regular casino. It looks royal, but the experience feels peasant-like. I honestly don’t know how they pay the bills.
