It's now Hotel 39, and the breakfast is much better than the crappy continental breakfast Super 8 used to offer. The rooms are nice, the staff were great, and having a fridge, microwave, and lots of outlets for devices was handy. I like things really clean, so I'd have liked the place to be cleaner. The pool should be open longer, since the current hours don't cover the times most people would want to use it. Still, I had a great stay and will be back.

The location made it easy to reach all the major LA Area attractions. Rooms were clean but nothing special, and the continental breakfast was okay, good enough without being anything over the top. Staff were neither especially friendly nor rude. This Super 8 matched what I'd expect for the price, without falling short or exceeding expectations.

The area feels pretty sketchy, with a liquor store, a sketchy bar, and a pawn shop right next door. The front desk room closes at a certain time, and after hours there's a bulletproof window for talking with the receptionist. Inside, the rooms were surprisingly nice for a Super 8 in this area, with a refrigerator, microwave, coffee, and TV. It's four stories tall but has an elevator. The beds were average.

They were able to extend my one-night stay to three days without any hassle. It’s Hotel 39 now, under new management, and the staff were really friendly and accommodating. The room was extremely clean, and the fast WiFi was free, though connecting to it was a little annoying.

Trash bins outside were overflowing, and the piles of rubbish were disgusting. The room itself smelled strongly of smoke despite supposedly being non-smoking, and there were burn holes in the furniture. The bedspread and blanket had a funky smell too. It was hard to feel safe with a liquor store and girly bar next door and weirdos walking around. All night, cars raced along Beach Blvd, and the thin walls let through kids screaming and noise from huge families filling rooms, maybe living there? You get what you pay for. Spend $40 more and stay at a 5 star Ayres Hotel instead.
