The kids were busy from the moment we arrived, learning to crab from the dock and then heading out kayaking on the river. When our rainy day came, games, movies, and popcorn kept everyone entertained. We’d planned on two nights at Wheeler On The Bay Lodge but stayed four because leaving was hard. The rooms were cozy, and I slept better there than anywhere else on our 12-day trip. Martha and Gordon were warm and helpful with suggestions while giving our family plenty of space. Letting the kids choose things for the breakfast basket was a hit. The location, rooms, and hosts all felt just right. I’m so glad we found this place.

Breakfast was ready for us at check-in, so we could eat when we wanted instead of joining a crowd, and there were plenty of snacks and choices. The room was spotless, with lovely linens, towels, and bath mats, plus thoughtful art and decor. Martha & Gordon were friendly, welcoming, and seemed to have covered all the little comforts of home and then some. There’s a big movie library, kayaks, and a sweet little dock, too. I’m picky about comfort and cleanliness, and I honestly had nothing to complain about. It was affordable and such a pleasure to stay here. I’ll definitely be back. This place rocks.

I could watch birds and other wildlife for ages from the river view in room 9. The room itself was cozy, clean, and nicely equipped, and the bed was super comfortable. The owners were very friendly and made arrangements for my friend, too. There was a decent range of continental breakfast items to bring back to the room.

The bed was unbelievably soft, but still supportive, probably the most comfortable one I’ve found in a hotel or motel. The Sunset room had a deck with chairs, and it was an easy walk to the smoking area. There’s a grill, games to borrow for kids and adults, and a quirky jetted tub and shower that they explain fully. The garden is lovely, and the sunset views are beautiful. It’s a charming, small place and one of the best stays I’ve had on the coast. Everything was immaculate, though the room was a bit small, so pack light. There’s no closet or drawers, just a couple of hangers in the toilet area. The DVD library is impressive, and you can borrow as many as you think you’ll watch. Taking breakfast away in a picnic basket the night before felt odd at first, but was handy since we left early. Apparently there’s a different continental breakfast for people going on a fishing excursion. We only met Mr. Owner, and he was delightful, genuine, and funny. I could’ve talked with him all day. I’ll absolutely stay here again.

We felt right at home whenever we got to talk with the owner, and the place felt like a hidden gem. Wheeler on the Bay was well located for the things we wanted to see and do, and it felt like we got a lot for what we paid. Room 7 was clean and cozy, with a comfortable bed. We loved sipping coffee in the morning and watching the sunset from the deck. Coming from Ohio, we were thrilled to see otters swimming in the bay, along with pelicans and herons looking for supper. The breakfast items and extra snacks and popcorn were much appreciated, and the DVD library brought back fun Blockbuster memories from when we were kids.
