The people were a bright spot. Other guests were great, and the front desk staff were friendly and helpful. It was affordable, and the location is one of the best for a hostel, with a safe area and stunning views of the city, Alcatraz, and the Golden Gate. The amenities are good when they’re open. My room was very hot. I couldn’t tell whether it had no central air or the system was broken. A confrontational guest said they had a health condition and wouldn’t let anyone touch the windows, so opening them wasn’t an option. There were very few wall plugs, and cords running from the surge protector in the middle of the floor to the beds were a tripping hazard at night. I had properly labeled food in a bag, but cleaning staff moved it into the “free” refrigerator and some of it disappeared. Laundry was available for only 7 of the 24 hours. Free parking existed, but there were just six spaces in front of the hostel; more free parking was a five-minute walk away, and nearby construction made parking very limited.

From one end of the private room, I could see part of the Golden Gate Bridge. For this price, it’s one of the best views in the city, and the location is what makes the hostel stand out. The bathrooms aren’t as nice as at some other city hostels. The showers are set up like a gym, with nowhere to put clean clothes. There’s no cooling in the rooms, though opening a window should take care of it on most nights.

The people are the best part of this hostel, both the other travelers and the courteous staff. Kevin at the front desk is our favorite and a real highlight whenever we stay. We come back regularly when we’re in the Bay Area. The rooms are clean, the shared spaces feel welcoming, and the kitchen is big, clean, and stocked with flatware and pots and pans. We love the location and amenities too. Hope to be back soon!

I spent four days here and would definitely come back. The view of the Golden Gate Bridge is direct and lovely at sunset, though it’s from a distance. I took a photo from the backyard with 6x zoom. The lounge is a nice place to relax and socialize, and there’s a good seating area by the kitchen. The cafe is great, the rooms are decent for the price, and staff are kind and helpful. There are several shower rooms in a shared washroom. Wi-Fi speed is average. There’s an in-room locker that fits two cabin bags, plus free luggage storage for larger checked bags, kept under staff observation and CCTV. The snack vending machine has reasonable prices, and free filtered drinking water is available cold or warm. ❤️

The staff are really nice, and the kitchen was clean. It’s an old building, which is fine, but the bathrooms, especially the showers, could use some work. Loud noises from what seemed to be bathrooms above our room woke us up pretty much every day, and that was a letdown. Overall, though, it wasn’t too bad.
