Larkspur Landing Extended Stay Suites South San Francisco

The updated kitchen is really pretty, and there’s plenty of space in the room. It was quiet and easy to get around. We enjoyed our couple of weeks here and I’d come again. Free laundry and breakfast, plus an exercise room, vending machines, and a sitting area.

The one-bedroom suite was a good size, with a kitchen stocked with plenty of pans, glasses, and dishes. The living room could use a table or two. The decor is dated, but in reasonably good condition, and the front desk staff were great every time I interacted with them. The room smelled a little musty when I arrived, but opening a window helped. The living room TV didn’t work at first, then I plugged the HDMI cable back in and it was fine. The door was finicky: I had to try the card key a few times to get the green light, then try the lever a few times before figuring out I needed to pull it up, not push down. Breakfast was simple, with a better selection the earlier I got there. It may not have been refilled enough, and there were only a few tables in the small space. I ate standing up on the last two days. This is the least expensive hotel in the area, so manage your expectations and be flexible. It was good value and close to where I needed to be.

Misleading photos, poor cleanliness, and a terrible experience. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this place deserves one. I honestly don’t know how it keeps its rating. I wish I had the time to file lawsuits against them.

The two times I stayed here, the doors seemed to have minds of their own, and the key card machines weren’t great. My other complaints are that there’s no office center for printing documents and that ants took over the kitchen on both stays. The hotel is dated and needs renovations, but it was good enough until the ants showed up. I’d bought groceries to cook and save money, but they made it hard to want to use the kitchen, and with black counters, the ants were hard to spot unless they were moving. Somehow they even got into the freezer. Housekeeping did come clean it out for me, and I give them credit for that. Location was great for getting into the city. Mostly office buildings nearby, so there wasn’t much foot or vehicle traffic, and it worked well with dogs. I managed two extended stays, with the second one to confirm the problems I’d noticed were real. Otherwise the stay wasn’t bad: spacious rooms, a quiet location, and nice, accommodating staff. But having critters where my food was supposed to be was the limit for me.
