The tech around the hotel was fun to use, from the delivery robots to the rooms. The sheer and blackout blinds have a one-touch control, and the bathroom’s glass pony wall has its own sheer power blind for privacy. There’s a side lobby with a coffee and pastry bar and several places to sit. The workout room has a yoga area, two dueling TONAL screens for guided exercise, plenty of treadmills and free weights, clean towels, and a water bottle refill station. This was my second business stay at LUMA in San Francisco. Chris and Ricky gave me first-class service and made me feel like I was the only guest there. For the same price, I wouldn’t think twice about choosing LUMA.

The TV setup was a frustration: you have to cast from your phone, and the connection kept cutting out. Wi-Fi was around 13 Mbps during my stay, usable but not especially fast, which may explain some of the TV trouble. I also noticed delivery robots stalled around the elevators while trying to get past guests. Our food arrived a little cold when we used one, which might be why. I stayed in Unit 530 and had a solid experience overall. The location is excellent and convenient, and the unit is modern, clean, and thoughtfully designed. The motorized blackout shades made a real difference to my sleep, and the subtle night light at the bathroom base was a small detail done well.

I was only there for about six hours before surgery scheduled at UCSF the next morning, but the stay gave me a calm, convenient start to an important day. I slept well and had an amazing shower. The robe and slippers were lovely, and the automated blind between the bathroom and main room was a cool modern touch. The staff were kind, welcoming, and wonderful. The little robots moving around the entrance and lobby were a fun, unexpected bonus. LUMA Hotel San Francisco was just what I needed. Great location and people, and a great experience all around.

We liked the room and the view, but left feeling the stay wasn’t worth the cost. On Monday the rooftop bar was closed for a private event, and nobody mentioned it until we asked, even though I’d checked before booking that it would be open. We’d planned to spend our one evening there enjoying the view, so it was a letdown. The hotel should reconsider holding private events or at least tell guests ahead of time. I’m sure we weren’t the only ones disappointed. The wine bar was also closed on Monday, and room service only came from the cafe, which shuts at 3pm. When we finally used the robot room service in the morning, the ham and cheese croissant was room temperature. You’d expect food to be warmed at a luxury hotel. Without the restaurants open, there really wasn’t much to do, and my husband and I were bored. We enjoyed the room and view, but don’t think we’ll stay again.

Luma met the needs I had for a work trip: I wanted to be within walking distance of food, coffee, and groceries, a short drive from SF General Hospital, where I work, and with freeway access. I also wanted a location that didn’t feel surrounded by bums, since SF can be sketchy. The staff were incredibly friendly and courteous, and I’ll definitely stay again. The room had lots of modern details: electronic sheer and blackout shades on the exterior and bathroom windows, a glass-door mini fridge, a desk with outlets and USB ports, a lit suitcase table inside the wardrobe vanity, a push-button flushing toilet, and textured laminate flooring. Of course, it’s a bit pricey for SF. There’s a coffee bar on the main floor, where my oat milk mocha cost $15, valet parking at $90/night, and the Cavana latin bar on the rooftop with beautiful views, where I paid $70 for 3 tacos, ceviche, and beer. ☆☆☆☆☆
