Knights Inn Wheeling

Wheeling was nice, but this was a lousy stay, and I won’t come back. The room wasn’t worth the $90: it was dirty, the shower finish was peeling, and the walkways were grimy with machines out of order. Our first non-smoking room smelled of smoke. The front desk attendant was kind and moved us when we asked, but that couldn’t make up for the poor quality. It was my first Knight's inn, and I’ll likely avoid the chain now.

We got our $90 back, which was the one good thing about this stay. The room was dingy and smelled awful, and the tub floor was cracked and broken. The toilet seat had smegma on it, and the place looked like a crack house room. The curb appeal was poor when we arrived, despite the receptionist telling me by phone that it was a nice room. The receptionist was a doughy guy who seemed not to care. Do not go here. This place is the worst.

The staff were hospitable, and the room itself was okay, with a mini fridge, nice TV, and a fine bed. I booked non-smoking and didn’t have the smoke problem other people mentioned. The exterior looks run down, though, and the advertised breakfast was only a selection of store-bought pastries. Not my first choice, but it works.

I’ve never stayed somewhere so filthy. There was old food in and around the fridge, rat droppings everywhere, stained bedding, and dead bugs. We got only one towel and one face cloth for two people; when I called the front desk, they said they were out, and housekeeping didn’t come until noon the next day. The bedding hadn’t been changed, so I slept on top of the covers. The website photos are totally misleading. Charging $75 for this is a rip off. Also, the maintenance man reeked of alcohol. Please tell the staff not to drink on the job.
