Inn of the White Salmon

We’d happily stay here again. The hotel sits right in the middle of White Salmon, with lovely views of Mt. Hood. Parking was easy, and check-in went quickly. Our room was very nice, the amenities were great, and the staff were friendly. There are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby, though keep in mind many close on Mondays.

We hadn’t booked anything, but after deciding on the spur of the moment to add another night near White Salmon, we found the Inn at White Salmon. There are so many rivers, roads, and little towns around here that one day didn’t feel like enough. The reviews we’d glanced at were right: it feels nothing like a chain, and it’s comfortable without being fussy or pretentious. The service was warm and professional, and the price seemed very reasonable for what was probably the low season. We took a suite and were glad we did, even though that’s not usually how we travel. The balcony had mountain views, and having a separate entrance made the room feel distinctive and convenient. Excellent food and drinks were less than a three-minute walk away. We couldn’t believe the inn wasn’t full, since there was so much to see and do. Off-season travel really paid off for us. I’m already thinking about a spring or fall return to see the gorge in different light.

The old building has a lovely feel, with photographs covering the wood-paneled walls, and the view of Hood at sunrise is hard to beat. I always enjoy staying at Inn of the White Salmon. The staff are kind and helpful, and parking is easy. Native Cafe, Leone Pizza, the bookstore, and Everybody's Brewery are all within walking distance. That sweet potato burrito bowl is delicious! The whole place feels charming, and I’m looking forward to coming back with my sister for windsurfing and paragliding.

We held our wedding ceremony at the Inn of the White Salmon, and it turned out great. It had been raining that morning, but the sun came out for our outdoor ceremony. The garden was lovely to experience and made the photos even better. The staff were accommodating and helpful. It’s a beautiful place along the Columbia River Gorge.
