We only ate at the restaurant, didn’t stay at the Inn. The clam chowder was good, and the smoked salmon gave it extra flavor. We also liked the bread with the soup and the salmon dip, which had real chunks of salmon. My husband says his dip is better than mine, though. My cousin got baked halibut and I had halibut fish and chips, and we shared both. They were good. The Cosmo was strong, just right if you like it that way. Kalan was friendly, quick, and attentive. People make a place, and she was great. We’d go again.

Joshua’s hospitality made the stay especially memorable. He was warm, attentive, knew the area well, and made sure we felt welcome, with helpful recommendations and a smile. The Inn at Whittier sits right on the waterfront, and we loved the peaceful atmosphere and views of the harbor and mountains from both the lobby and dining area. The restaurant was a highlight too. Everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and nicely presented, especially the seafood. I’d recommend the inn for the setting, food, and service, and we’ll be back.

The fish dishes got a positive response at our table. We ordered halibut, cod, and salmon, and the portions were generous, with some easily big enough to share. The restaurant has a lot of potential, and the Inn at Whittier is beautiful, with stunning bay views from the dining room. We’d had trouble finding restaurant options on Google Maps and on foot, and more than one person suggested this place. Service was the weak point: no one came to our table for nearly 15 minutes, then it took another 10-15 minutes for our wine and cocktail to arrive. The servers who eventually took our order were kind. The cocktail was just okay. I’ve been to New Orleans several times, and the Cajun pasta didn’t taste like Cajun food to me. Its sauce was very sweet and barely spicy, and I had to add a lot of black pepper to make it easier to eat. I wouldn’t order it again. I hope they can work through the quality control issues.

I can’t speak to the hotel, but the restaurant was the least welcoming place I’ve been in Alaska so far. Staff seemed distant, had headphones in, and gave us the impression they wanted us to leave. The vegetarian option was just the dish with the meat held, and they wouldn’t make any other changes.

We took that great tunnel on a whim and ended up with local beers and a tasty lunch. I had the halibut salad, and could’ve stayed at the bar much longer.
