Best Western North Side Inn

The parking lot seems designed to catch your front bumper. I scraped mine while leaving, apparently as part of the adventure package. Inside, I squished three bugs before I’d even unpacked. The shower had mold in every corner, its curtain hung a third of the way into the stall, and the mat seemed to have an ecosystem of its own. The loose toilet seat kept me guessing whether I’d fall off mid-thought. Breakfast was another experience: the omelette had a strange texture, like melted cheese you immediately regret. Four stars, purely for the confidence it takes to run a place like this. A wonderful visit if you’re a bug.

We stayed one night as a family with two dogs, and the room was very dirty. There was even half a pill sitting in plain sight on the floor. I’m glad my two-year-old didn’t spot it first. The shower only got lukewarm even on full hot, though the sink water was hot. Breakfast was barely stocked and was the cheapest I’ve seen at a BW. They charge $20 per pet, too, so you may as well choose a nicer hotel for the same pet fee and avoid this poor experience.

The front desk staff were great, friendly, and gave us a packet of things to do around town. But we had cockroaches in the bathroom and on the bed, at least five during our stay. The sheets felt like a shower curtain, the comforter looked stained with blood, and the pillows were tiny. The neighborhood felt unsafe, and dogs barked loudly in the early morning. I’d reconsider staying here and look for a hotel downtown.

We arrived and immediately asked to change rooms because the shower was dirty. We hadn’t unpacked or even put our bags on the bed, but the front desk staff member refused twice and said room changes weren’t allowed. He confirmed other rooms were available, and the parking lot was empty, yet we were still stuck paying for a room where we couldn’t shower. This was unacceptable and fell short of basic cleanliness and service.
