The bed was comfortable, the room temperature was fine, and I met some friendly workers. Wichita is a great location. But getting into the hotel was awkward: there’s no sliding glass door, then you go through the lobby and another very small door. That’s a struggle with all the luggage you usually have at an extended stay. The room floor looked unswept or unmopped, with clumps of hair and dust in the middle of the entryway. The fridge was basically a freezer, and its temperature knob was frozen over, so our things had to thaw in the morning. I went down to ask for milk after ours froze, and the front desk worker seemed astonished I’d ask, replying with a sincere “noooOooOo.” The bathroom vent turns on with the light and was absurdly loud, like a jet engine across Webb St. I have auditory stimulation issues, but even my husband thought it was ridiculous.

Sherita at the front office is a treasure, and the only reason I’d ever come back. I love you, Sherita. The new owners don’t seem to care about repairs: the treadmill and internet weren’t working, and neither was the laundry facility or the coffee advertised for breakfast. Half the time during my month-long stay, these things didn’t work. I also left early because a domestic violence dispute on my floor frightened me, but under the new management I still had to pay for several nights. The new management seems more focused on money than caring. It’s sad when people come in, damage human connections, and only see dollar signs.

The hallways were loud all night, with kids running up and down them, and the whole stay was a disaster. When we got our key and went upstairs, the room was filthy: unmade beds, full trash cans, and roaches crawling on the floor. We told the front desk, but instead of moving us, they told us to wait in the dirty room for a cleaner. We stood there watching the cleaner change the bedspread, wipe the cabinets, and replace the towels before leaving. The whole thing felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. We’ll never stay here again.

There was nothing in the room: no plates, cooking supplies, utensils, or even a bar of soap. I asked at the front desk because these items were advertised, and she told me, “we do not provide anything.” The front desk service was curt and neglectful. I’ve been a travel nurse for years and have never stayed somewhere that charges high extended-stay prices and then provides nothing.
