Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Wichita East

The room was nice, but the staff were just okay and seemed pretty lackluster. The pool chemistry seemed off. I didn’t bring my test kit on vacation, but all the kids ended up with really bad rashes from being dry.

We found bed bugs all over the beds and walls. When we took samples downstairs in a cup, the front desk asked, “Do you want to move rooms?” as though that settled it. He said they’d have to throw everything out, and seemed more concerned about that than resolving what had happened to us. I tried five times to reach the manager, Brad Culp, but he never answered or returned my calls. I wanted to tell him how his staff had handled the situation. It took nine days for them to inspect the room, and only then did they confirm bed bugs. I hope they weren’t using that room or the ones next to it in the meantime. The live bugs we brought in apparently weren’t enough proof. I have lifetime status with Marriott and had never had a room with bed bugs before. I’ve also never had a hotel manager avoid a guest like that. Maybe he doesn’t need repeat customers or want to hear from them. The staff and manager handled all of this horribly. I strongly recommend staying somewhere else. I’ll never stay here again.

We usually choose Fairfield Inns because they’re reliably fresh, friendly, and convenient. This Wichita stay was disappointing: over two nights we got no housekeeping at all. We’d normally expect at least fresh towels, and usually the bed would be serviced too. I hope this was just a one-time oversight.

The room itself was comfortable and nice, but the toilet was so loose it felt like it might tip over, and the shower faucet was loose too. The pool had a moldy smell. When we checked out on 01/04 in the morning, the front desk manager was wearing headphones. That came across as extremely unprofessional. I don’t usually complain or leave reviews, but these things need attention.
