Holiday Inn Wichita East I-35 by IHG

We were really happy with our stay. The place was very clean, the front desk was well run, and the staff were super nice. The price was quite reasonable, especially after a disappointing night at another name-brand hotel.

We came to Wichita for my sister’s baby shower and had booked and paid for a room for my elderly parents, including the incidental fee. My dad’s name was on the reservation, and the woman checking them in had already handled it. But when they arrived at 2 a.m., Sondra and a guy with messed up teeth said they couldn’t find them in the system. They profiled my dad and treated him so poorly he didn’t even want to stay. When we went down to complain, she didn’t take time to look into it. She cussed us out, threatened to call the cops, and told us to get out of her hotel. The experience left us feeling unsafe and really soured the stay. I feel we should get all our money back. We were there for three nights, and every day we had to call maintenance to fix the TV. He’d fix it and leave without showing us how it worked. On the second night he replaced the whole box, but it still didn’t work. On our last day, just as we were getting ready to check out, the TV went completely off. We didn’t get breakfast or anything. I’d never stay here again, no matter how nice it looks.

For a business trip, it was a decent hotel. My company had asked for two beds because I was traveling with my child, but when I arrived during a packed convention weekend, I was given a king handicap room with no pullout. They did manage to move me, though I was told they don’t really care what’s requested. Breakfast costs $13, with kids eating free. The attached restaurant wasn’t great. Service was poor, and we saw the manager more often than our server.

My wife was bitten by something that very clearly appeared to be bed bugs during our stay. We reported it, but the hotel leaned on a so-called “inspection” and later said they hadn’t found anything. That was convenient for them, but it didn’t deal with what happened to us. We got no real accountability, useful help, or compensation. It felt like denying the problem mattered more to them than looking after guests. I wouldn’t trust this place if cleanliness and honest service matter to you.
