The staff were kind, and the bed was comfortable with clean sheets and towels. But the safety problems and the dirt throughout the property made this one of the worst hotel stays we’ve had. We travel often and regularly choose budget places, so we don’t expect luxury. We’ve even lived off-grid without running water, but this was appalling. Econo Lodge hotels are usually comfortable, clean, and cared for, even when they’re older. This place was very different. It felt neglected and was absolutely disgusting. I won’t stay here again, and now I’ll think twice about any Econo Lodge. Unless you can tolerate a very high level of dirt, stay away. The bathroom and appliances were especially bad. The floor was dirty in the corners and around the toilet, and the shower was unclean and clogged, with hair everywhere, far more than a little. Both the microwave and refrigerator were very, very dirty. There wasn’t a trash can in our room, and other guests had left garbage in the hallway. The mirrors were greasy, as if someone had rubbed their hands all over them. The walls had several stains that looked like different liquids. There were safety issues too. The building’s outer door was badly damaged and taped so it couldn’t lock. The stairwell light was out, and my husband tripped while carrying our suitcase upstairs. The fire extinguisher had been taken off its wall bracket and put in a plastic bag, presumably so someone could smoke in our “non-smoking” room. One outlet behind a bed was damaged and uncovered, and the plug in it was damaged too. The shared areas were filthy. Garbage was scattered around the parking lot and grass, which hadn’t been mowed. The outdoor trash can was overflowing, with a full bag beside it, and neither was removed during our three-day stay. The stair and hallway carpets were dirty, with rocks, litter, and debris all over them.

The room was filthy, with dead bugs, stained carpet, broken lights, and bedsheets torn to shreds. It was obvious nobody had cleaned. The person at the front desk was extremely rude, too. Sure, this may be the cheapest place around, but there’s a reason for that. It’s the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. No price makes it worthwhile. Don’t go.

We had to change rooms because the first one smelled so strongly of pot. In the next room, we killed a baby cockroach on the toilet, and there was no way to adjust the water. If you like it extremely hot, that part might suit you. Our socks turned black from the floors, the TV was so flimsy I’d never seen one like it, and we woke up to someone yelling next door. Finding our room was like going through a maze. We were also out of toilet paper.

We went in July of 2022 but refused to stay after seeing how unsafe and unsanitary the room was. We still haven’t been able to get a refund. There were affordable places nearby, and we found one at Skylight Inn and Suites. The cost here isn’t worth the risk. I’d avoid this business. The room’s swing bar guard was missing, the bathroom ceiling was in disrepair and looked stained, and the shower curtain rod was loose and partly pulled away from the wall. The outside security door wouldn’t close securely. There was graffiti on the room walls, and the bed linens looked stained. When we raised our concerns, the staff seemed standoffish. We tried to reach the manager, who remained elusive, and also contacted Choice Hotels guest relations.

We checked in, then left right away. At 1:30 am we had to find somewhere else and pay quite a bit more, which says enough about how bad it was. There was a strong smoke smell in the halls and our non-smoking room, and people upstairs were fighting and swearing. When we arrived, three police cars were near the entrance. The officers told us, “we patrol this area and we'd never bring our families to this hotel.” The hallway carpets looked like they hadn’t been vacuumed in weeks, and there was trash along the wall edges. It’s two hotels joined together, but the pool is only for guests at the more expensive one. That wasn’t disclosed, even though I booked the cheaper hotel and its amenities listed a pool. I’d give this place zero stars if I could. Choice Hotels needs to turn it around or sell it if they want to keep members’ loyalty.
