Matt and Lisa are such nice owners. We’ve been going through a rough patch lately, and their place has been a comfort to us. The rooms are neat, clean, and upgraded, and Diane, the lovely cleaning lady, checks each day to see if we need anything. It’s safe and quiet here, so we can get a good night’s rest. If you stay, tell Matt and Lisa that Karen and Ben sent you.

The rooms were clean and smelled fresh when we arrived, and the downtown Williams location is great. The front desk staff could use more customer service training, though, and the hallways and jacuzzi area were untidy and needed attention. Breakfast was a bit disappointing, just cereal and toast, with only whole milk. That’s understandable at $50 a night. The basics were covered, but some improvements would make the stay better.

There’s not enough light in the room to tell whether the bed is clean, though it seems to be, and at least nothing is crawling on me. The carpet is so dark it’s hard to judge too. When we got up, the free breakfast was just cold cereal and bread. It’s quiet because nobody dares to stay here. I travel a lot, and this is one of the worst places I’ve found. The place has some motel-like features, with pavement by the rooms and locking doors. The lot is covered in leaves and windblown trash, and the poor lighting makes it take a while to notice. The bathroom has no fan, nowhere to hang a towel, and barely enough space for an adult to turn around. On a cold winter night, the only ventilation is opening the window. The shower head is so low you have to duck to wash your hair. The soap, shampoo, and conditioner bottles were all empty. There’s nowhere to set out clean clothes after showering, so your travel companion has to watch you get dressed or leave the room.

The rooms were dirty, the electrical setup was extremely poor, and the heating arrangements felt unsafe for younger children. The spa and hot tub were very dirty and smelled strongly of chemicals. All in all, it was an unsatisfactory stay, and I wouldn’t recommend this place.

The hotel is safe, friendly, and within walking distance of everything, with the train just four minutes away on foot. If you’re coming from another state or country for the Grand Canyon, Williams is worth a day or two. There’s plenty to see and do in this Wild West town, including Bearazona and the train to The Canyon. It’s a beautiful area, especially if you think Arizona is all desert. We brought our kids and grandkids to Williams for the “Polar Express” to see Santa and The North Pole on December 16, 2025. We all live in The Valley, in Tempe and Gilbert, Arizona. I booked five rooms online. We’re used to five-star resorts, so we set our expectations accordingly. We’d stayed at “The Grand Canyon Hotel” before and didn’t think it was anything special, especially for the price. I found this Travelodge by Wyndham while looking for other options. It had its share of complaints in the reviews, but the cost for five rooms made it worth a chance. We weren’t disappointed. The older hotel may once have been listed as a motel, but the rooms were spacious and very clean. It’s clearly had a remodel or two and was maintained as you’d expect for an older property. It smelled fresh from the moment we entered. The proprietors were very friendly and ready to help. Breakfast was a basic continental setup with waffles and yogurt, but the attendant kept the tables clean, cleared them when guests left, and made sure food didn’t run out. The mattresses get 2.5 out of 5 from me, since they weren’t very comfortable. Maybe the next remodel could upgrade them. If you expect The Four Seasons or Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, this hotel should suit you fine and save you a bunch of money.
