The arcade surprised me most. I usually skip campground game rooms because they haven't been much fun, but this one had loads of games and activities, and my husband, kids, and I all enjoyed it. The train is another favorite for the kids and me. You can hear it, but we like that, and the campground itself feels peaceful, safe, and homey. The owners and staff are so welcoming, always greeting us with smiles. It's very clean, family friendly, and in a great location. My kids and I love this place, and I'd recommend it to families with children. ❤️🚂

The kids had a great time in the included arcade, with its games and board games, and the staff were friendly and helpful when we asked about parks and tickets. We also appreciated the camp store, which had the things we'd forgotten to pack. We came to the Williamsburg, VA area as an RV family looking for a campground near attractions, and the reviews brought us to Anvil. Getting there and moving in and out was easy, and the sites have a thoughtful layout with room and privacy. It's a smaller campground, but not cramped, unlike some huge resorts. It felt good for families, and we'll come back in the spring. Thanks for a great stay, Anvil!

I usually camp in a camper, but this time I booked a cabin and loved it. Anvil campground is a great fit for me as a solo traveler, too. I feel safe here, and hope to become a regular. The family running the place is wonderful. There's a pool, game room, laundry, and country store, plus the train tracks nearby. I love trains, so that was a bonus for me. It's in a great location, though there's a fire station down the road and I hope they get there in time. Anvil campground is amazing!

A fun, well-maintained place to stay in historic Williamsburg. The bathrooms are nicer than the usual campground ones, and the staff are friendly. There's a good range of amenities, too. It's the best campground around, and I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The layout and upkeep left a lot to be desired. The campground map suggests green space, but it isn't to scale, and the large empty patch in the middle feels like a missing house lot rather than useful campground space. One of the two dog parks is tiny, around 8 feet by 8 feet before the gate, so it's basically unusable. We also saw a golf cart left completely disassembled at one site, with parts scattered around, for our whole stay. I called after making a reservation by phone because the checkout date had been entered one day off, but nobody ever called me back. There wasn't much breathing room even though there weren't many people. Most sites are very small, and nearly all are stone or asphalt. The tent sites have a little grass, barely enough for a six-person tent, and they're closest to the tracks. Some fire rings are about a foot from the dividing fence, which felt cramped and unsafe. Trains went by several times during the day and repeatedly overnight, with most sites roughly 50 feet from the tracks. Every night, a truck also arrived around 9 p.m. and idled its diesel engine all night. Sleeping was difficult. The place felt noisy, overcrowded, poorly planned, and badly managed. This wasn't a relaxing stay, and I wouldn't recommend Anvil Campground to anyone wanting quiet or comfort.
