The people working there were really pleasant, and parking out front was easy. The room itself was another story. It had the feel of a remote roadside mom-and-pop motel, and I’ve slept in busier hotels in downtown Baltimore and San Antonio that were quieter. The gap around the door let in light and every sound from the hall. There was no closet, no hangers, and no ice bucket, just two yellow wall knobs to hang things on. The heater was either running or off, and changing the temperature setting didn’t seem to affect how hot it got. Even in sleep shorts, on top of the very firm bed and blankets, I got hot overnight. The bathroom looked worn out: the counter was separating, the door was swollen and shredded, and paste was still on the floor and baseboard tiles. There were holes in the shower where a bar had been poorly mounted, rust on another bar and the knob, and discolored caulk. The whole place felt so shoddy that I wasn’t sure about the bedding, though it seemed fine. It didn’t feel worth about $100 a night, though I know everything costs a lot these days.

Check-in and checkout were quick, and the staff were friendly. The room was clean, and the mattress was much more comfortable than I expected. We’d be glad to stay again at that price. A few more fresh fruit choices at breakfast would be nice.

Sherry was the one employee who seemed to care. After my children were in the indoor pool with what looked to us like a water moccasin, an aggressive snake, she was the only decent person we dealt with. The rest of the experience felt unsafe and badly managed, especially for a family. Our first room was over 90 degrees because the AC didn’t work, so we had to move. While we were doing that at 4 PM, staff told us to be quiet because another guest was sleeping. My children were only walking and talking in the afternoon. Later, a disruptive guest screamed, slammed doors, threw things, and yelled at our door late at night. That guest was still shouting aggressively at 8 AM as my kids were waking up, and staff didn’t step in at any point. The WiFi barely worked, and although the hotel advertised continental breakfast, it was only offered on weekends, which was misleading. Management also blamed us for ordinary spills by children and said a comforter was “unusable,” which seemed ridiculous for a hotel that “washes linens daily.” They then wanted a $250 deposit for another night, which felt retaliatory. The mattress had only a thin pad and no protective encasement, which struck me as unusual and concerning for sanitation. Aside from Sherry, this was no place I’d call family-friendly. Avoid it.

Mr. SAT made a huge difference for me and the kids. The third-party booking site was having trouble sending the hotel the funds, but he knew I’d reserved the room and handed over the keys anyway. He even let us look at the room before I booked. It was clean, and I’ll stay here whenever I’m back in Williamsburg. Thank you, Mr. SAT!

The room was clean and decent, and the staff were friendly enough. The shared spaces looked dated and a little rough, though. My room had a strange smell, and there were no hangers or ironing boards anywhere in the hotel. The WiFi didn’t reach my room. Toiletries were limited to a bar of soap and a bottle of shampoo.
