We came on a whim for the Grand Illumination, but I think I liked the stay even more than the event. The rooms looked just like the pictures, with gorgeous details and a sweet, romantic charm. It felt like real care had gone into the design. The staff were warm and welcoming, and ready to do what they could to make us comfortable. The chef even put together a lovely vegan breakfast for my boyfriend and me using ingredients they’d picked up that night. We usually expect to make do with bread and fruit at a continental breakfast. Nobody gave us funny looks for being a vegan millennial couple. We felt welcomed and respected. The other residents were friendly too, and several had been coming for years. I only wish we could’ve stayed longer.

We flew in from Montana for our honeymoon, but after our flight was delayed we couldn’t reach anyone about arriving late. We called from morning until night, left messages, and even tried texting, with no response at all. After landing, we were pretty much stranded in Richmond, Virginia. For all I know, the building could’ve burned down since we booked, because the communication made it seem like nobody was there. Thanks for practically ruining my honeymoon, Liberty Rose.

I accidentally booked a twin room for my fiancée and me through Expedia, then called the hotel right away. They said they’d refund us. Once we got home, Expedia couldn’t reach them for three months while trying to get the money back. I made at least 20 calls myself and only got someone about twice. When they did answer, they knew why I was calling and assured me they’d follow through. The room cost a lot, so I kept trying, but eventually gave up because the owner and management were so terrible.

The breakfast we had here was second to none, and the owners are wonderful. This is the best place to stay in Williamsburg. Do yourself a favor and book it, you won’t be disappointed.

The owners treat you like royalty and go out of their way to make your stay special.
