Baymont by Wyndham Wilmington

The location is the one good thing here. The room wasn't clean: there was hair on the shower wall, dirt in the tub, and crumbs on the floor by the bed. Hot water was scarce and took more than 20 minutes to warm up. They also sprung a $50 room deposit on us when we arrived, though it hadn't been mentioned when we booked online. We got to the lobby in time for breakfast, but wanted to take food with us since we couldn't sit down. Even though we had our room key to turn in, the desk clerk wouldn't let us leave with one waffle each. Seriously, a waffle? I'll never come back.

When I'm in Wilmington for business, Baymont is my first choice. The rates are affordable, and they take pets for a small deposit. I like the clean pool area for relaxing in the sun and cooling off. The rooms are clean, with cozy beds, a fridge, microwave, and cable TV with HBO and Starz. Housekeeping is quick and accommodating, and the staff are welcoming, courteous, and helpful with guest needs.

We had to move here after a house fire and knew the holidays wouldn't feel normal, but the Baymont staff helped my family have a wonderful Thanksgiving. They'd set up a beautifully decorated meal in the breakfast area for employees and guests. People from all walks of life were welcomed with smiles and a seat, and before long it felt like we all knew each other. We shared conversation, laughs, and a traditional feast with dishes from the different cultures represented at the motel. The manager Jenish, the office staff, and the sweetest housekeeper clearly care about the property and community. They worked hard throughout the day, and even let families and kids staying there help, which made it feel more like home. Much of the food was homemade, with each staff member bringing something. Nobody was turned away. We could take plates back to our rooms for later, and the remaining food was packed up with dessert, silverware, and a handwritten blessing. The staff personally delivered it to the homeless community. Before staying, I'd heard bad things about this hotel, but I like to see for myself since negative experiences often get shared more than positive ones. The rates were affordable, and the front desk was friendly and informative when I asked about rooms and prices. The office looked and smelled nice, with complimentary coffee and candy. Our room looked and smelled clean, and I loved the face soap. It was cool that day, but the heat warmed the room quickly. The shower was only lukewarm at first, but they fixed it quickly by moving me to another room. The motel is being renovated. I liked the mini fridge, with a separate freezer compartment, which was a little larger than most. There was a new smart TV, a desk where I could work on my laptop, plenty of space, fresh paint in relaxing colors, and cozy beds. New curtains would finish the room nicely. The experience my family had couldn't come just from getting a Thanksgiving plate. It came from a caring staff, from management down through every employee. I'm grateful they made our holiday special when we needed it most.

The room needed work and a proper cleaning. The AC only blew cold air for an hour before I had to get Maintenance to replace it. The floors hadn't been swept, and there was pillow stuffing behind the bed on the floor. The nightstand leaned because one leg was broken. There was a big ring around the bathtub, and the part where you stand was dirty. The tables were dusty, and the refrigerator was nasty inside, top and bottom. All she said was that she'd talk to the maid. No, FIRE HER. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to my enemy.
