For my first hostel stay, I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable it was and how friendly the staff were. The house is older, but I had no issues with it. If you book one of the dormitory-style rooms, just be comfortable sharing with other people. There’s a lot of fun history here, including a book exchange and a world map showing where Stella Maris travelers come from. The backyard has a great atmosphere, with herbs growing, a swing, and a thoughtfully designed, nicely lit seating area decorated with lots of guitars and doors. The prices are great for the quality of the experience, and I’ll likely come back to Stella Maris.

The bus stop is right on the corner, and downtown shops are close too. I could have walked to the station, but didn’t realize how near it was. It’s so charming I felt like I was in Europe. I stayed twice, five nights each time, and both the private room and women’s dorm had really comfortable mattresses. The place felt clean, safe, and welcoming, with friendly, professional owners and staff, quiet hours that people respected, and some lovely travelers to meet. Breakfast supplies in the nice kitchen were plentiful, and there were no bugs. Booking on their website makes the prices very reasonable: $80 for a private room and $49 for a female dorm. I wish I had enough money to help them fix a few things, especially the bathroom ceiling and the badly stained bathtub, though the water pressure was fantastic. I’m sorry to leave and go back to hotels and Airbnbs while I look for housing in Wilmington. Book it and stay here.

We’d definitely stay again. My friend had never been in a hostel before and loved it. We felt safe and comfortable, though I’m extra cautious and wish there had been lockers. The place was very clean, the staff were friendly, and the soft bedding and linens were especially comfortable. The A/C and fan worked well, the shower had good pressure, and the Wi-Fi was strong. They even provided earplugs. Bars are about a 15-minute walk away, but since we’re young women, we took an Uber.

The place is a little cluttered, somewhat dirty, and a bit janky, though that does add to its charm. Also, the included “breakfast” is only a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter. Still, the staff are very nice, there are lots of interesting people around, and the price and location near downtown make it a solid choice for travelers passing through. I’d stay again.

Parking right on site made things really easy, and the neighborhood was quiet even though the strip is only a few minutes away on foot. The quiet hours also meant little chance of being disturbed while I was there for business. The mattresses were the best I’ve had in a hostel, and the place was so clean I was comfortable walking around barefoot. The small self-serve breakfast selection was a real bonus. I’m already planning another trip here.
