We were crossing Kansas with our baby and found this place at just the right time. They were ready for our late arrival and kindly kept our things refrigerated and safe. Breakfast was excellent, and the dining room was clean and well cared for. Before we headed out, the manager invited us to see the chickens and goats out back. That felt like a real Kansas experience. I only wish we’d made it into town earlier. I’d happily recommend stopping here for some old-time charm.

The restaurant was busy and dinner took a while, but we had nowhere else we needed to be, and the food was good. We should’ve made a reservation; arriving just before dinner without one taught us that lesson. The rooms were clean and nice, and the hotel itself is a quaint historic spot in a cute little town. We wandered around and spotted the Czech egg across the tracks, along with other eggs scattered through town. It made for a lovely pit stop at the Midland Railroad Hotel & Restaurant.

We weren’t expecting such a lovely surprise on our cross-country trip. The restaurant was the highlight: the onion rings were lightly breaded and perfect, my wife’s chicken fried steak was thick, tender, and seasoned just right, and the salads with fresh greens, tomatoes, red onion, and homemade 1000 & Ranch dressings were among the best we’ve had. The meatloaf was the one miss, a bit mushy with too much bread compared with the meat. Breakfast biscuits and gravy were a great start the next morning. The antique hotel shows real pride of ownership. Everyone on staff was friendly, our room felt warm and historic, and the bed was comfortable. The shower had good pressure too. Our server was funny and welcoming. Midland gave us a great memory.

The room stayed above 80 degrees because the air conditioning couldn’t cool it, and there was just one light. The TV was barely bigger than an iPad. The linens smelled awful, and the room had the worst odor imaginable. The sink wouldn’t drain and the shower didn’t work properly. Staff were hard to find since the desk was usually empty, and when I did find someone, they didn’t seem helpful or concerned. Avoid this place.

Matthew recommended this place, and we arrived just before it got completely dark, with the full moon lighting up the neighborhood. Teri had the perogies and I ordered pork carnitas while we sat at the bar and enjoyed a wonderful meal. Rose took great care of us with cocktails and wine. Thanks to her and everyone working behind the scenes for making the visit such a good one. I’m telling people to stop here when they’re passing through.
