The Plaza Hotel & Suites Winona

We left for the day expecting the room to be cleaned and the bed made, but when we returned nothing had been done. The front desk said we needed to put a sign on the door to request service, which we’ve never had to do at other hotels. The TV remote didn’t work, the bed was very uncomfortable, and the continental breakfast was the worst we’ve ever had at a hotel. We won’t come back.

I’m spending $500+ here and called for help. Based on the staff member who answered, I might cancel and go to the Super 8. I’ve never stayed at this hotel before, but I’m coming to town for Fastenal.

The place was lovely, very nice and clean, and the food was delicious. But the main desk clerk was quite rude as guests kept having to return because their key cards deactivated. We had to go back too, and I saw other guests do the same. She blamed us for keeping the cards too close to our phones, which seemed strange.

The main problem was the evening front desk employee on May 19, 2025. She had a bad attitude from the start and acted like checking us in was a burden. It wasn’t just me, either. Our whole crew talked about it the next morning, and it came up again through the day. Hopefully management takes care of her. The morning staff, though, were delightful. Otherwise, it’s a decent, clean hotel, with adult-sized toilets, good showers, and comfortable beds. Breakfast starts at 5:30 a.m., which I really appreciate as someone in construction who’s often on the road early. It’s pretty minimal, bagels, cereal, muffins, and microwavable sandwiches, but the early hours are a plus. There’s a restaurant attached, a McDonald’s across the parking lot, and a QuickTrip nearby. Without that one rude employee, it would’ve been a much better stay.
