We booked four nights but my husband and I left after just one. We couldn't bear another night, got no refund, and had to pay for a different hotel. Everything felt musty, and the old furniture was rickety rather than charming. The bed looked so unstable that we worried it might collapse. The shower was basically a hose with no shower head. Breakfast was a joke: nothing hot, no protein or pastries, and a blackberry dish so old and disgusting that we were afraid it would make us sick. Stay at your own risk. I'd ignore the other reviews, which are over a year old, and we suspect were written by friends and family.
We had a wonderful two-day stay in a quiet, sleepy town, away from the crowds in Bar Harbor. The drive there was perfectly beautiful. Our room, the Blueberry Room, was clean, comfortable, and cozy, and our hostess Anne gave us helpful ideas for places to see. After a long day of sightseeing, it was a great place to relax for a peaceful evening, with all the amenities we needed. Breakfast and coffee were wonderful too. We're so glad our friends recommended it.
Dust covered the room and its furniture when we arrived at the room we'd booked. We tried to make allowances for the age of the historic building, but then we saw cockroaches running around. After we caught one and another appeared, we had to ask the landlord to move us. In the new room we found another cockroach, already dead. We texted the landlord about it and got no response. We managed to sleep a little, then left early in the morning. I wouldn't recommend this place if you don't like dusty rooms and cockroaches. It was a terrible one-night stay in an old, run-down house.
Anne made the whole weekend much less stressful. She was accommodating, sincere, friendly, and greeted all our guests. Our daughter got married in Winterport, and we were able to rent the entire place for the weekend. The rooms were very clean and attended to daily, and I loved the chocolates on the bed. Access was easy and secure. Breakfast was DELICIOUS, with fresh fruit, homemade muffins, and home cooking for anyone wanting a heartier meal. We definitely plan to return. THANK YOU so very much. We stayed in the Blueberry room, and I love all the antique decorations and the vintage embroidered bedding. Being able to arrive late and let yourself in without bothering the staff is great. I always feel guilty coming in late, especially at a B&B, but traffic happens! The window AC was a welcome surprise, it honestly works better than most big chain hotel units, which never get cold enough in my opinion. The location was easy to find and really convenient, with a pizza place and tea shop across the road and a gas station down the street. They left a selection of drinks in the shared fridge, and breakfast was amazing: the hosts made us cinnamon French toast, with other things available to grab too. I included photos! Almost forgot, my SO had an emergency around 10pm and called Ann to ask for tape to MacGyver his medical device until we could buy a replacement part the next day. She came through. She didn't have to go looking for it that late, but she did, and it made a world of difference. Thank you!!
