Sun Mountain Lodge

The views were gorgeous, the restaurant was good, and the staff were helpful and friendly. It's a cool place, but I expected a cleaner resort. The common-area floors in the main lodge looked like they'd never been vacuumed, which was gross. Also, while I was in the jetted tub, it blew out chunks of something that looked rusty.

The dining servers were a real highlight, warm and attentive enough to make each meal feel special. We also loved the roaring fireplaces and the legendary chicken curry soup. With breathtaking Methow Valley views and direct access to winter trails, Sun Mountain Lodge makes it easy to unplug. It pairs rustic charm with refined comfort, and feels like a premier PNW escape with genuine mountain hospitality.

Though we stay here every summer, this was our first Christmas at Sun Mt. Lodge, and it was top notch again. The service is outstanding, and employees are friendly and ready to help in most situations. It's a beautiful resort high on a mountain west of Winthrop, WA, with an elegant bar and five star resteraunt overlooking the entire Methoelw valley. There's lots to do, including cross country skiing, snow showing, sledding, hiking, biking, and sleigh rides, or you can explore Winthrop and its charming town. The quiet suites without television add to the western Lodge feel. Between the Lodge, cabins at the lake, and all the amenities, there's no need to leave if that's what you enjoy.

The lodge itself is lovely, and the mountain setting is incredible. It feels like a billionaires' getaway, surrounded by a year-round trail system. We'll absolutely return, though we'll bring more food of our own. Food is the main challenge. I know it must be hard and possibly prohibitively expensive to run a good food program up there, but it feels like they're not trying. Going into town gets you great food, though it rather defeats the point of staying on the mountaintop. They also seem chronically understaffed, so some things don't run smoothly or don't happen at all.
