Fairfield Inn & Suites Sacramento Airport Woodland

The hotel looked nice and was easy to park my bus at, so I didn’t have to leave it on the street. It was new, quiet inside despite being near the highway, and I’d recommend it if you need a quiet stay. I also appreciated that they moved my room to the first floor when I asked. Drivers who are light sleepers shouldn’t have to stay on the same floor as a college group, since we can hear everything even if some people sleep deeply. The room was small, though it had a king bed, and the bed was so-so, maybe could’ve been softer. The blinking smoke detector light made it hard to fall asleep in the dark. Breakfast was mixed: the scrambled eggs were runny and undercooked, but the bacon was good. There were sausages, though I didn’t try them. No sliced bread, but bagels and muffins. Fruit was limited to oranges or bananas, and waffles were available. The coffee was okay, with half-and-half, but I wished there were other flavored creamers.

As a long-time Marriott Bonvoy member who often travels for business and leisure, I expected better from this stay. I’d messaged through the app before arrival to request a late checkout on Sunday, but was told to ask at check-in. When I arrived at 3:30 p.m. Saturday and asked for 1:30 p.m. checkout, I was abruptly told noon was the latest, even though occupancy was low and it was Sunday. My profile says I prefer a high-floor room for security reasons, but I was first put on the ground floor. After I mentioned it, they moved me to an ADA-accessible room I hadn’t asked for and didn’t need. It left me feeling that using points instead of paying cash meant I was treated with less regard. Later that evening I got another message saying late checkout was only for Gold members. That didn’t match the Marriott website, which says extended checkout depends on availability and applies to my status too. The mixed messages were frustrating. A little flexibility could have resolved this easily. When I asked again at 9:30 Sunday morning, the front desk agent gave me a 1 p.m. checkout without any issue. The complimentary breakfast was also disappointing: by 9:05 a.m. there were no eggs or bacon left, a first for me with this brand.

The rooms are extremely clean, and the place is very well maintained. I was there at the end of a work trip because it’s close to the airport for an early flight. A family with kids above my first room were making a lot of noise and jumping around, and I didn’t have time for that. The woman at the front desk understood and found me another room. I’d stay again.

Alex at the front desk is a very kind guy, five stars for him. The hotel itself is nice too, and the pool is shared with another hotel. It closes at 10 p.m., while the workout room stays open 24 hours. The gym is quite small, but the free breakfast and handy little market in the lobby make up for it.
