I stayed four nights at this Econo Lodge. The room was just okay, average at best, but the owner’s behavior made the stay very unpleasant. She sits at the front desk, and was rude and irritated with customers. She never smiled, and her sharp responses made me feel unwelcome as soon as I arrived. I was also very uncomfortable with her entering my room without permission. She kept checking the room, and opened the door and came in several times. Once I’d gone out for coffee and returned to find she’d entered while I was away. Another time I stepped out briefly, and she opened the door without knocking. Basic hygiene was another problem. In four nights she never changed the bedsheets, and only cleaned the floor. When I asked for fresh towels, she rudely said, “No towels at night.” Not changing sheets for four nights and not providing towels when needed is unacceptable. This place isn’t professionally run, basic cleanliness is ignored, and the owner’s attitude and invasion of privacy are major red flags. I wouldn’t recommend booking here. Save your money and stay somewhere else.

I was inconvenienced when the counter agent couldn’t find my phone reservation or explain how I should pay. When I asked for her manager, she went into an inner room, and I had to call to get her to come back. Then another traveler arrived, and she ignored me to show him how to use the card reader. I copied what he did, after asking if I’d be charged twice since I’d already paid by phone. I sensed resentment from her throughout. Before that, I’d tried to be kind and said she seemed to be having a bad day, since I’ve had those too. She told me my room was upstairs in the back. I then understood that she felt victimized by racial profiling. I held up a lovely beaded blouse from my luggage and said it was beautiful and made in India. She smiled! We should think about how we treat people who may have honored and privileged pasts, but get seen as generic dark-skinned immigrants. I’d go there again. I believe her that my phone reservation wasn’t in the system. I was double charged, but reported it to my bank, and they canceled the first, higher charge. Both charges were higher than the price on this site. I paid $82.

The front desk check-in was one of the worst I’ve ever had. The staff member was hostile, rude, and unprofessional from the start. No one was there to greet me, and when she finally appeared, she made things unnecessarily difficult. She gave me a key to room 118, which seemed to be occupied. When I went back, she blamed me for checking in early and made me sign paperwork saying I accepted a different room type from the one I booked. She also made offensive, discriminatory remarks, including, “what’s wrong with you.” Later I returned to get my charger and asked about weekly rates. She wouldn’t help and said she was logged out of the system. The hotel was nearly empty, and the front desk staff created a hostile atmosphere instead of welcoming guests. This service is unacceptable. I wouldn’t recommend staying here until management addresses the issue.

The location is a real highlight: grocery stores are right across the street, the farmers market is just down the street on Saturday, and the freeway is close by. For $50 a night, the room was decent for the price, though it wasn’t the cleanest. The fridge made an unexplained amount of noise while I was trying to sleep. There were some nice mirrors and lighting, but the sink knob came off and either the hairdryer or the outlets didn’t work. That’s what the price gets you. The service was poor. The woman working seemed uninterested in engaging. The instructions said to call before noon for housekeeping, so I called at 10 and asked for a sweep because there was stuff on the floor when we arrived. She said I’d earlier said I didn’t need anything and someone else would come later to sweep. I saw housekeeping on my floor when leaving. When I came back at 2, nothing had been done. At night, I asked for extra pillows and was told it was too late, and to ask in the morning. For $50 a night, I’d say the room was worth it. I’d pay more for decent customer service. The area itself gets a 5 from me, and I’d definitely recommend it.

After I paid for two nights by card and signed, the manager said my card wasn’t accepted, even though she’d taken the money. I had to call the police to get her to void the payment and transfer the money back. She was irate, mouthy, and rude. This stay isn’t worth it. The place needs to be shut down.
