Stagecoach House Inn

We had a lovely stay for three nights. The river view from the back porch was peaceful, and our room was very clean. We got stuck in northbound 95 traffic and arrived late that first night, but we called ahead. The front desk clerk stayed an extra hour to get us checked in and settled.

The riverfront setting was beautiful, and the room was bright and comfortable, with a comfy bed. It was a bit far from the beaches, though the drives weren't too long, and I'd stay here again. The one surprise was being charged extra for my son. We had searched for a place for three and were upfront that there would be three of us, but the price was higher when we arrived.

The rooms and the history make this such a beautiful place to stay. When the service falls short, they work hard to make things right and go beyond what you'd expect for customer satisfaction. Jeanne and I can't wait to come back. Stan and Jeanne

I never felt safe here, and I wouldn't return or recommend it. My pet-friendly room was one of only three outside rooms, with a door opening straight onto the gravel driveway and no way into the lobby. Cars and wind blew so much dust and sand inside that I needed a mat by the bed to wipe my feet. The towel rack came off in my hands, and no housekeeper ever came. For fresh towels, I was told to leave the used ones in a basket outside. The main hotel was the bigger problem. The entrance doors stayed locked in the mornings until staff showed up, sometimes late morning or early afternoon. On Tuesdays there was no staff at all, leaving the hotel locked from outside. The posted emergency number went to voicemail, and they called back whenever it suited them. There was a lockbox on the back porch post if you got locked out, beside a broken vending machine. A housekeeper told me one guest had to break the door jamb to get into his room. I found the whole stay very uncomfortable. The owner, Dave, was rude, intimidating, and unprofessional. In my opinion, anyone giving this place five stars hasn't stayed at a real five-star hotel. The hospitality business should involve hospitality.
