Homewood Suites By Hilton York

We skipped the free breakfast because of our schedule, but everyone we met on staff was pleasant. My family would stay here again. Our one-bedroom suite, room 325 in the back of the building, was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed: dishes, a mini stove, microwave, and refrigerator. Unlike the website photos suggested, a door separated the bedroom from the living room. The hot water worked well, and extra sheets arrived promptly when we asked. The curtains didn't block the sun fully, so the room took a while to cool down. We were told the pool was heated, but it didn't seem warm when we checked. It's open 6 am to 10 pm. The fitness center is open 24 hours; it's small but fine for a decent workout. We arrived around 1:45 pm on Saturday and were told no rooms were ready, which was fine since we knew check-in was at 3 pm. We got our room at 2:15. The lobby was clean and nicely decorated, with a small shop selling snacks and beer and wine.

I've stayed here 4-5 times and haven't had a bad experience. On an overbooked weekend, I was in a room with a lot of traffic and children nearby, but the manager found a way to move my husband and me to a quiet area. The rooms are always clean, and breakfast is always fresh. The staff who prepare it do such a great job. I love this hotel and the people who run it.

After paying $458.00 through the reservation, staff charged another 318.00 to my card, calling it a party fee. That seems crazy when all we had was a happy birthday balloon. The front desk supervisor was rude and unhelpful. I called back and asked for my fiolo, proof of deep cleaning, and the housekeepers' notes about what they supposedly had to clean up. The supervisor only sent the charges, with no proof, and was rude again. Someone higher up needs to look into the workers. This isn't a good look. The GM is about to cost the hotel more money than she took, all because she wouldn't correct their mistake.

Less than five minutes after I posted this, they tried to check another person into my room. The guy opened the door, and we were both stunned. Getting into my room early was a great plus, but the rest was disappointing. Apart from a convenient gas station, there isn't much nearby. The heater's fan wouldn't run. A maintenance tech came, pointed an infrared gun at the outlet, and said it was 102 degrees, so the heat was fine. I explained that the fan was part of the unit and wasn't working, but he just shrugged and left. The room was clean but sparsely furnished, with a whole side left as empty space. The kitchen worked, though the supplies were hastily piled on a shelf under the stovetop and there were no drawers. Coffee apparently isn't provided anymore, and they wanted $4-5 a cup at the counter because the machine says Starbucks. This was a disappointing stay at a usually good chain, possibly the worst Homewood I've stayed at. I spend most of the year in Hilton properties, so that's saying something.
