Inn at York

The restaurant near reception was a bright spot: quaint and clean, with excellent food and exceptional service. The receptionist was friendly and helpful, and got me a first-floor room since I had a lot of luggage. The reception area itself was clean enough. I chose the place because it allowed pets and I had two small dogs competing at a dog show that weekend. Once I went in through the back door, though, there was garbage everywhere, a man vaping outside, and a very bad smell in the hallway. The room looked cleaner than expected, so I brought the dogs in and stayed. It stank, so I opened the window to air it out, then quickly shut it when fighting started outside and down the hall. Half the outlets didn't work and the lights flickered. Shouting and fighting went on, quieted down, then started again in the middle of the night. I felt very unsafe. The next day, I found bedbugs in the other bed I inspected. I would NEVER recommend this property. It needs new ownership or to be shut down. Apart from the restaurant, the place felt like being in the getto.

People were yelling, screaming, and pounding on doors at all hours, and the hallways smelled strongly of weed. Cars were being broken into, and sometimes the police would show up, either for that or to serve a warrant. The hallways were vacuumed once a week, whether they needed it or not. The refrigerator didn't refrigerate, and the heating and cooling system was a gamble. If you want to play Russian roulette every day and see how the other side lives, this is the place. Section 8 all over.

After I got a text from my bank about a fraudulent $52.99 charge for SA_Charmerly.co, I checked my account. The hotel's charge had gone through, but luckily the Charmerly charge hadn't, so I had to cancel my debit card and order a replacement. I had paid for two nights to be near work during the snowstorm. At about 3:30am Monday 1/26/2026, I went to the lobby after work and asked the overnight guy if I could add a night in the same room, 439. The Indian guy said yes and asked for my debit card. He was doing something on his computer for a long time, and I got my card back about 10 minutes later. I felt he had tried to steal my card details. Update: The manager contacted me and said the employee was fired. They offered to make things better, but I declined. The rooms were nice and cheap. I was in the newer building, and I'd stayed in a nice room in the older building before too. I will stay here again.

The front staff were very attentive, but the place itself felt dirty, neglected, and smelly, not just dated. I'm homeless and needed a few hours out of the bitter cold, and you wouldn't stay here unless you were in a dire situation. It's loud, and everything is stained and dirty: the floors, towels, and hollow pillows. Roaches were everywhere, including crawling on you while you try to sleep. They told me to “keep the dog outside” even though it's a dog-friendly place, so I guess I was meant to keep going between the room and outside. I don't know. Everything smelled of smoke, even on the nonsmoking floor.
