Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham York

The room was dirty, and a rumbling noise woke me every 30 to 45 minutes through the night. The service afterward was just as bad. I booked through a third party at a good $77 rate, but it put me down for the wrong night. I caught that right away and contacted them. They said a refund required a letter from the motel manager, so I called Microtel. A helpful young woman took my details, said she'd pass them to the manager, who would be in the next day, and booked me directly for the correct night. Then I heard nothing for a week. On arrival the manager wasn't there. The next morning, after a horrible night's sleep, I asked again for Surav Patel and left my name and number. I've since called three times and left voicemail, with no response at all. I'll never stay at Microtel again.

The bed was decent, and the place did the job without being awful. But the room was tiny, and the walls were so thin I could hear the people next door unless the TV or fan was on. My noise machine helped me sleep. There are plenty of other places around, so I'd choose somewhere else next time. It was fine, just not great.

We had to start our vacation with my chest and lungs burning after an allergic reaction to cigarette smoke. So much for a non-smoking hotel. We've stayed at this Microtel for years, but it seems to have new owners now. At check-in, the desk agent said our rooms had been listed as dirty and had to check whether they were clean. Smoke was all over the third floor and in our rooms. I'm allergic and had an anaphylactic reaction, so we went back down and got first-floor rooms with two beds, though they weren't suites. They were dusty, the floors were scuffed, the mattress had cigarette burns, and we had to wipe mouse droppings off the floor. The manager acted like he couldn't care less. I'll never stay here again.

The hotel is older and shows some wear, but it was clean. The staff were very nice, the bed was comfortable, and breakfast was included with waffles, eggs, and sausage patties.
