Finca del Sacramento

Four team members made my week feel welcoming: Galo, both Belens and Gimena. My room was bright, nicely decorated, and had a comfortable bed and a little fridge. The grounds are lovely and well cared for, and breakfast was amazing with a view over the vines. The bikes weren't in great shape, and I'd assumed from the booking that I could ride them into town. Without a car, the hotel runs a bus into town, but you need a taxi to get back. One person who seemed to be the owner came across as arrogant, which put me off. That's why I'm taking off a star.

The wine is a real highlight, and so is the quiet countryside setting just outside Colonia del Sacramento. Finca del Sacramento felt calm and intimate, with vineyards all around, a nice place to slow down. We enjoyed the wine with a cheese and cured meat platter we ordered before the kitchen closed, since the restaurant wasn't serving dinner during our stay. The food was good and went well with the wine. The tasting schedule was the main drawback. Tastings are in the morning or around lunchtime, which is hard to fit in when you're staying just one night. You either can't take part if you need to drive later, or you have to book two nights to get the full experience. Still, it's a charming place for wine lovers who can plan around the tasting times.

Catherine was wonderful, so kind, and even printed out information in English about the vineyard, wine, and food since we don't speak or understand Spanish. The wine tasting with food pairing was absolutely lovely. The vineyard and buildings were beautiful, and the food was delicious. Such a peaceful place. Highly recommend!

The food was fine, but it took ages to arrive, and there was only water. You could pay extra for a glass of wine, but we had to ask, no one offered or suggested it. After the food, we waited around again for no reason, with no coffee, tea, or anything available to buy. The tasting itself was three wines in tiny pours, just a few sips each. In Colonia you can get five wines for a quarter of the price, and much more to drink. I booked the Wine Experience directly on WhatsApp, and all the messages were in English. Nobody told me the tour was only in Spanish. On arrival we waited about 30 minutes with some water and nothing else, then had a tour I can't comment on because the guide didn't speak English. I wouldn't recommend it unless you speak Spanish. Nobody on the ride back to Colonia seemed happy either.
