Axsur Design Hotel

I loved it. Lovely hotel, great prices, and an incredible room almost right by the beach.

Big, clean rooms and friendly staff made this a great stay in Montevideo’s old city. Breakfast was sufficient, and you can walk to pretty much everything you’d want to see or do. The view from my room was of what looked like ruins, but it didn’t affect my stay. Shower pressure was low, though. I’d come back.

The service was wonderful, and the staff were very supportive. I also loved the big windows in the downstairs coffee area, which give it a magical view. The sea is about 100 meters away, and you might get a room facing it. A couple of things could be improved: the rooms have kitchens but no microwave or other items. Also, the front desk isn’t open 24/7. The doors are locked at night and only opened in the morning, so there’s a risk of being stuck outside. Still, it was a nice stay, and a few small changes could make this location amazing.

My room was comfortable, and the bed was one of the nicest I’ve slept in at any hotel. The staff were conscientious. I did have mixed feelings, though. I expected the ocean view shown in the pictures, but mostly saw the tops of other buildings, some looking quite run down. Maybe I missed the old city’s charm, or perhaps my expectations were too high. The shower never got much warmer than lukewarm. I wonder if I’d have preferred staying near Los Pocitos.
