Cala Di Volpe Boutique Hotel

The room wasn’t ready at the 2pm check-in time, and we couldn’t get in until 3pm. There was also loud hammer drilling from the hotel’s concrete structure. At 3pm we were told it was coming from next door and would stop at 2pm, but it went on until 5:30pm and continued every day of our three-day stay. There was a face-sized amount of black hair in the tub, which had no overflow and a rusty smear down it. We also found hair in the bed that wasn’t ours. The room wasn’t cleaned for three days. To be fair, I declined cleaning on the first day because I was really sick with food poisoning. The coffee and tea weren’t complimentary, despite what you’d expect at a hotel at this price. I’m exaggerating when I say every hotel on Earth includes them, but at this price, it feels true. After visiting seven countries and twice as many hotels on a trip around the world, this had the most uncomfortable bed. It wasn’t the worst I’ve ever slept in, but nowhere near mid-tier. The AC makes an audible snap when it connects. On its own that wouldn’t be a big deal, but there’s no buffer in the temperature control. As soon as the room gets one degree above your setting, it runs for about five minutes, stops, then starts again, over and over. Snap, snap, snap. Anywho, it sucks. Save another few bucks and stay somewhere nicer. The employees were very polite when they took our money for the coffee we thought was free, and when they made my wife pay for her supposedly complimentary breakfast with a smile.

We ended up with a room that had two separate small beds, but everything else seemed really nice, pleasant, clean, and attractive. The rooms are well equipped.

The price felt a bit high for me on this business trip. Still, cala di volpe is close to many restaurants, a supermarket, and a large mall, punta carretas, with everything you might need. It’s about 20 minutes from the old town by Uber. Breakfast had a good variety, though it was somewhat repetitive.

Breakfast had lots of choice, including fruit, pastries, bread, meats, cheeses, and eggs you could order. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with sea views, and the staff were friendly. The location was really great.
