Rambler Punta Carretas

Clean hostel with good facilities.

The hostel is in a really calm, middle-class residential neighborhood, close to restaurants, shops, supermarkets, a mall, and the beach. I loved staying here. At first I was in a large room with 11 people, which felt like too many, so I asked to move. They put me in a more comfortable room with 6 people. I paid the difference and had no trouble with the change. The staff were really nice, too. We’d hang out in the lounge, chatting and drinking. I spent 3 days in Punta, and when I came back, my bed was still waiting for me.

The bathroom was spotless and the place itself is nice. A skinny Brazilian guy, I think his name was Jorge, was lovely, though he wasn’t there on our last day. The Spanish guy who works there had a terrible attitude. We’d say hello and get no response. When we asked him to arrange a taxi to the bus terminal, he told us to wait outside. It never showed up, and we were left on the street with our suitcases. When we asked what happened, he said, “Or they pass by three blocks away,” in a really rude way, so we had to leave carrying everything ourselves. The Wi-Fi never worked, and the air conditioning couldn’t be used because they didn’t have the remote. It was hard to sleep on days when it reached 32 degrees Celsius (90 degrees Fahrenheit).

The staff were super attentive and always ready to help, and the breakfast was great. It’s an affordable place with WiFi. Highly recommended.
