Urbano Hotel

The central location is convenient, with all kinds of public transport nearby, but the rest of my stay at Urbano Hotel in Montevideo was disappointing. For a three-star rating, it fell far below what I expected. The room had no basic amenities, not even a glass for water, and the whole place felt outdated with little attention to detail. Reception seemed cold and unwelcoming, as if guests weren’t valued. The room internet was weak and unreliable, and moving rooms didn’t solve it. You can hear people in the neighboring rooms clearly, which made it very hard to rest. Great location, but not a comfortable or satisfying stay.

The hotel is old and very poorly maintained. My first room’s bathroom door was locked, and the receptionist, who didn’t speak any English, couldn’t open it. They moved me to another room, but its main door lock didn’t work properly either. Every time I needed to enter, I had to call staff to come up and open it after I’d tried ten times. The safe was broken, the AC made a strange noise, and breakfast was poor. Awful hotel.

The employees were nice, and the central location put several attractions nearby. Since MVD is an expensive city, it was good to find a hotel that stayed budget-friendly. My room didn’t look quite like the picture, though, and you could hear everything from next door through a bathroom air vent they tried to conceal with fake plants. I was traveling alone, so the small room was manageable, but the shower really was tiny.

Just a short walk from Plaza Independenzia, this seven-storey hotel has the usual modern comforts, including WiFi, Smart TV, air conditioning and an elevator. The beds are big and comfortable, and the staff were really helpful. Breakfast seemed pretty basic for USD 7 per person. Having a supermarket next door and bus stops for the city's main sights nearby was handy.
