Hotel Playa Grande

For the price, this place left a lot to be desired. The room we’d reserved had already been confirmed, but management called an hour before we arrived to say it wasn’t available. We couldn’t turn back, and cancelling would have cost us 50% of the total. They offered a different room at a much higher price, without the amenities of the one we’d booked, and it had neither air conditioning nor windows. After we complained several times, we finally got our original room. It was in awful shape, with a musty smell, dirty sheets, and a dirty bathroom. The power also went out several times. Management was terrible.

The location is the best part. I pass by every day, and it looks closed: no people or cars, just fallen blinds and peeling paint. Maybe it’s abandoned, or maybe it has no customers.

The wiring was in such poor condition that the power went out, leaving the entire second floor without electricity. There were other maintenance problems too, including a broken faucet and a clogged bathtub drain in our room. We were moved from a quadruple room to a double with a mattress on the floor and a broken crib. We left the night before checkout and got no refund. They offered us the chance to come back another time, but I found that disrespectful. The whole place was a disaster, and my family and I have no intention of returning.

The breakfast was very basic, and the service was poor. Common areas and the stairs were dirty, and maintenance throughout the place was bad. When it rained, water came through the main room ceiling light into a brass fixture. Once it filled up, it overflowed into the hallway by the main entrance.
