The old madrasa has a special charm, with its quiet courtyard, cozy tapchans, and lovely hosts. They pointed us to great local cafés, and we had a nice evening enjoying hookah at a good price. We stayed for 3 nights and loved it. It was so cozy we barely wanted to leave. Breakfast was simple, fresh, and tasty, too. We’d love to return someday.

The building is beautiful and the location is great, and apart from the receptionist at check-in, the staff were actually really nice. For the 10 Euros extra, though, you could get a better hotel. The place manages to pack in every small travel annoyance. They demanded payment on arrival but had no change. I’d booked a double room and confirmed it by message, yet they first offered only a triple room with single beds. When I said I did want a double, the receptionist gave me a really increadolous look. A family room with a double bed was available after all, but only after I insisted. The receptionist insulted me in Russian while getting the key. Of the 4 blankets in that room, one had no cover and one was actually a carpet. There was no toilet paper in the room, or in the first room they showed me. The shampoo came in little plastic packages, and used ones from the previous guest were still in the shower. The tiny key had no keychain, so I had to be careful not to lose it. Breakfast was the most uninspired of my whole trip through Uzbekistan. The AC basically didn’t work and couldn’t cool the room. Metal was literally sticking out of the mattresses. The WiFi was NOT STRONG AT ALL. I’m also surprised by the high ratings on booking. Something seems off there, and the Google Maps rating seems more accurate. If you don’t have the 10 Euros extra for a better hotel, OHUN is possible to stay at. Update: after my stay, they changed my reservation dates in the booking.com system to May 2027. They refuse to cancel the reservation for free and are trying to make me pay to cancel it. This is an outright scam.

Worst place I’ve stayed during my trip to Uzbekistan. The room was small for the price, and there was no hot water in the evening. It smelled like plaster, and even brushing against the wall briefly left white powder on my clothes. I think people who recommend this place have a bad mindset, as if they can’t be the only ones to suffer through it.

The location is good and it’s cheap, but the place is run down and attracts dodgy guests. Some used clothes and money were stolen from our rooms. The manager seemed indifferent and made empty promises. The rooms are in disrepair, with leaking, smelly sinks and showers. Because it’s cheap, solo male travelers gather outside the rooms at night to drink booze and smoke pot. Some of them even hit on my mother in law. I had to ask several times for toilet paper and towels because there were none or too few in the room. Rooms weren’t cleaned daily, and some of our sheets had lots of stains.

We were exhausted when we finally reached another hotel at 2am, and angry that no one had told us what was happening. We’d booked this hotel for three nights and were arriving from samarkand at 1am. On arrival, they said there were no rooms left and offered us another hotel, without telling us what it was like or where it was. We’d messaged the place several times about our arrival, so we asked why they hadn’t informed us about the lack of rooms. They then said the reason we couldn’t stay was that there was no hot water. Since it was 1am and we were exhausted, we agreed to stay without hot water. Then they said we couldn’t stay because of plumbing problems and a very bad smell in the room, and kept offering the other hotel, which was a taxi ride away. I’d never recommend this experience.
