Shahriston Hotel

The room was okay, but the shower didn’t drain properly. I was really unimpressed with how the front office handled taxis. They arranged one for 25k UZS, then when it was time to go, a staff member offered to drive us to the station and asked for 25 US$, about eight times the normal price. It felt like they were ripping customers off with a clandestine taxi service.

I enjoyed the hammam treatment, but afterward I noticed cash was missing from my bag, which had been inside a locked locker during the session. I didn’t bring it up right then because I felt uncomfortable, and there’s no phone signal in the hammam area. I later contacted the owner and management. They replied promptly, apparently checked the cameras, and made sure the missing money was returned within a few hours. They handled it professionally. I’m posting this so other hotel guests know to be extra careful with valuables when using the hotel-affiliated hammam and spa.

A very luxurious hotel in the old town center, built in an old style with a luxurious feel. Restaurants and other attractions are within walking distance.

The hotel looks pretty, and its location is right in the heart of Bukhara. But some things about the rooms were hard to overlook. The TV was loosely mounted, some siding was loose, and all the bedside lamps were broken or loose. Most of the common area furniture had been moved to a corner, too. The fixtures could really be tidier. We visited in July 2025 during the summer heatwave, which was also low season. The place was dimly lit and had few staff around, though that wasn’t a big deal in the grand scheme. The area around the hotel was being excavated for newly discovered ancient ruins, so it was pedestrian only. We had to drag our luggage to the hotel, not a huge problem, but worth planning for.
