Ametist Hotel Complex

The photos are about the only thing that looked good. The WiFi was weak and unreliable, and I missed a business meeting because of it. The AC didn’t work, so I had to sleep in 28C heat or leave the patio door open all night, where anyone could walk in. The sauna spa was free for just one hour and only before 6pm. The shuttle to the airport or train station cost $15. I’d go with a name brand I trust or save the money and rent an Airbnb house for the same price.

The room was a good size, the bed was big and comfortable, and having a shattaf in the bathroom was convenient. Free parking inside the building was another plus. But the air conditioning stayed on heat and didn’t work properly, so we slept poorly for two nights. At check-in I told the staff I wanted two nights instead of three. They didn’t respond, and when I followed up the next day, they said it couldn’t be done. Booking.com customer service eventually sorted it out after I escalated the issue. The staff didn’t keep me updated, so I had to ask repeatedly. The room and parking had their good points, but the lack of response made the stay frustrating.

The only letdown was breakfast, which I’d rate 8/10. The rooms really raised the bar: they’re huge, beautifully decorated, and everything felt very clean.

Room 316 had one cabinet door with no glass, while the glass in the other doors was shattered and seemed to have been covered up. Nobody helped me carry my suitcases upstairs, unlike at every other hotel I’ve stayed in. Breakfast was bad, too. The reception lady said the pool and massage were open from 9am to 6pm, but when I went to use the pool, I was told I had to reserve it. She hadn’t mentioned that. My parents were given a massage slot, then called downstairs, only to be told when they arrived that they couldn’t get their massage. What a waste of money. This was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in.
