I loved the place itself. It was a pleasure sitting in the courtyard, hearing leaves rustle in the old tree while enjoying the flavored tea the host kindly offered. I prefer an old, historic stay to the newest or cleanest facilities, and the room was clean enough for the price, service, and experience. The breakfast was lovely too. There was construction while I was there, but it was interesting to see them making a new tandoor. The noisy side made it hard to rest, though: the door squeaked, outside sounds interrupted my sleep, and one night the quiet time after 10 pm wasn't respected. I assume the host was there, so that was a little disappointing. Maybe it was the room I got. It seems the host is restoring the place bit by bit, so it may be nicer in the future. Experiencing a 19c Jewish merchant's house with Uzbek hospitality was a real pleasure.

The location is perfect. A short walk gets you to the tourist sights, and there are local shops and delicious fresh bread close by too. You can always have tea in the proper courtyard inside the house. The staff speak English and French, and the service was very good. Rooms are simple but have what you need, with air conditioning and hot shower water working great. Breakfast is filling, even if you're hungry.

The bathroom was a disaster: the shower cabin was broken, water pooled in front of the sink, and showering flooded the whole room. The toilet was filthy, with urine stains, so we ended up cleaning it ourselves. When we first walked in, there was a terrible smell. We switched on the air conditioner to clear it, but it was extremely noisy. The place felt like my grandmother's neglected house, unused for years, and definitely wasn't worth the price. We came to enjoy the city, but at this so-called authentic hotel we were left dealing with cleanliness standards from another century.

Aziz was very helpful and told us about the local area. His brother was a great host too, saying to just ask if we needed anything. We stayed at Hotel Legende on our last night before flying out of Samarkand. There was a cold spell, down to -5°C, but our room was warm and the heater was already on when we arrived. The location is ideal, about a 10-minute walk to Bibi Khanym, Siyob Bazar, Shah-i-Zinda, and local restaurants. Breakfast was simple but filling on a cold morning. I'd love to return later in the year and enjoy the courtyard, which looks like a lovely place to relax after exploring nearby Samarkand.

Aziz, the owner, was a legend. He helped arrange our tour and kept looking after our journey even after we'd left the city to continue our trip. My mom has mobility issues, and he made sure we had a room with easy access. We stayed here again on our way back before heading home, and I'd return 100%. True Central Asian hospitality. We'd been recommending this place to everyone we met in Uzbekistan since our first stay. The rooms are comfortable, the Wi-Fi is good, and the tourist sights are easy to reach on foot. Food and breakfast are great, and the courtyard is super cozy. We were also able to park our car there safely, which was really handy. If they've got a room free while you're in Samarkand, stay here.
