I’d happily stay here again in Samarkand. Hostels in town were about the same price, but this was much more comfortable. The hotel itself is lovely inside and out; my room was clean and tidy, the beds were fine, and the bathroom had a nice shower. It’s outside the city centre, but there’s a really nice barbecue restaurant 100 metres away where I ate each night. A Yandex taxi into the city costs about €1, so the distance didn’t bother me. Breakfast was OK. The hotel was very quiet while I was there, so I’m not sure if the selection was limited, but they offered eggs cooked to order. Otherwise there were cold meats, cheeses and some pastries. Coffee was brought to the table, though it could be hard to get because nobody was always available to make it. I was surprised by the prices for a couple of services: two beers and one load of laundry came to around €18. I wasn’t given a breakdown, but that seemed like a big mark-up compared with other prices. Beer is 80c at the supermarket, and the same laundry would have cost about €8-€10 at my local Parisian launderette. That said, I chose to use both services and didn’t ask the prices beforehand.

The hotel is in a residential neighborhood and from outside you might not even realize it’s a hotel until you go in. Inside, it’s pleasant and extremely well decorated, with a homely feel. The rooms are very good. Breakfast was a big letdown, though you can get by. It’s also a bit far from the train station and the main monuments.

For this price I expected a first rate stay, but the room cost two to three times as much as a similarly equipped one in an excellent location with better food and service. I can’t recommend it. The service was poor, and the included breakfast was dull and sparse. They ran out of butter and juice, and neither was replenished. The location was bad as well. There was no bottled water supplied, though you could buy it, and the room lacked amenities. The beds weren’t particularly comfortable. Hot water was adequate the first night, but barely tepid on the second.

Breakfast was amazing, but the hotel was a long way from the centre and didn’t provide water. The room was spacious, with both a bath and a shower. The toilet was broken, and the bathroom needed renovating.
