Registon Saroy Hotel

Breakfast was nice, and the room was clean. The hotel is very close to Registan Square, which was the main thing for me. The male receptionist and restaurant staff were friendly and helpful, and I found the stay comfortable.

We only had two nights here, and I wish we’d booked three so we could see more of Samarkand’s historic sites. It’s a short walk to Registan Square, with lots of places nearby serving traditional local food. The hotel felt warm and family-friendly, and our room was simple, clean, and nice. Breakfast was simple too, but delicious. We arrived early and the staff kindly let us check in, which got our visit off to a good start. We’d happily stay here again.

The location worked really well for seeing the main sights without spending a lot. Registan Square is around a 7-10 minute walk, depending on your pace, and the hotel sits on the main road, so taxis can drop you off without going through little alleys. The room was clean and comfortable, a good size, and I liked the Uzbek-style tiled bathroom. There’s no bidet or handheld spray in the toilet, though, which I missed, since I’m used to Middle Eastern amenities. It’s more like a cozy bed-and-breakfast than a typical hotel. It isn’t a guesthouse, but it didn’t feel like a 4-star hotel either, despite how it may be listed. There’s only a small sign outside, so watch for it when you arrive. There’s no elevator, and with luggage I’d ask for a ground-floor room. The staff were kind, courteous, and helpful. The receptionist spoke enough English to get by and was accommodating. Breakfast was modest but decent: coffee, bread, salad, eggs, pancakes, and local options. The family-run setup felt homey, like eating at someone’s house. For value, I was impressed. I’d stayed at two hotels in Tashkent, including the iconic Hotel Uzbekistan, and this room felt more comfortable and cleaner to me. I’d stay here again if I wanted a central, comfortable place in Samarkand without luxury prices.

The staff were very supportive, and the place was kept moderately well despite being old. There weren’t any vegetarian breakfast options.
