Hotel Shohjahon Palace

The location is decent, within walking distance of Rejistan square, but I’d choose somewhere else. I stayed for two nights in late April as part of a larger tour, and my street-level room was very noisy. There was a brown mark on the net curtain, and the bathroom had a strange moldy smell, possibly from poor shower drainage. I can’t recommend this hotel.

The biggest issue was the payment. The hotel charged us twice, refunded us, then canceled the refund two days after we left. They admitted it was a mistake when we got in touch, but weeks later we’re still waiting, and they’ve been dragging their feet. This review will stay as it is until the refund comes through. The staff were friendly and spoke English. There’s a pleasant outdoor area to sit in, and the hotel is fairly new, with spacious, clean rooms and bathrooms. Ground-floor rooms can be noisy, and street-facing ones don’t offer much privacy. It’s close to the Rajistan complex and a few touristy restaurants, though there isn’t much else nearby.

The staff were friendly, and it’s a cute property. The sauna rooms are great, but the rooms we received smelled like pee and each came with only half a roll of toilet paper. We were also given different rooms from the ones we’d booked.

We found a few small markets nearby for snacks and drinks. The hotel is about a 15-minute walk from the Registran, which was the main drawback, but the staff were good about calling reasonably priced cabs. Restaurants 10-15 minutes away by car usually cost 15,000-25,000 som (USD $10-15); the train station was 35,000 som for a 20-30 minute ride (@ $30 USD). The day staff were especially helpful and spoke English very well. Laundry was good and reasonably priced, with underwear at 10,000 som per piece and a dress at 50,000 som. There were bottles of wine for sale in the lobby. The TV service was very good, with English news, and the heat worked well when it snowed. The lights went out a couple of times one night and came back quickly, though I don’t know if that was thanks to a generator or the power returning. The shared spaces are lovely, and we enjoyed sitting outside the first night, though it was too cold the next. The pool and sauna looked great, but we didn’t have time to use them. Paying was a hassle: the hotel took one guest’s card when he paid separately for his room, but when we tried to pay for three nights across three rooms together, the bank rejected several cards, likely because the transaction exceeded a limit. We had to pay in cash. We’d run into this in Tashkent already, so we were prepared.
