Art Regency Premium

The room had enough space for two and came with a fridge and kettle. The bathroom could use updating, since some fixtures were coming loose from the wall. Each night there was a laser light show with loud doof doof music, and I was glad we only had to stay two nights. The lovely person at reception looked after us well.

The location is the hotel's main advantage. The room was clean, though it could have been better, and the balcony rooms aren't soundproof. Housekeeping wouldn't bring water even when I asked. Nothing else to add.

The location was excellent and the staff behaved very well. Rooms were good too, though the washroom was too small and had no hand shower.

The manager's handling of our booking and registration slip left me distrustful of Art Regency Hostel and with a negative impression of Uzbekistan. The hostel is in a semi-basement, where people passing on the street can see guests through the windows. Air conditioning is only in the hallway, so the room door has to stay open to get cool air. We had booked a four-bed mixed dormitory through an online booking site. My wife and I arrived early and spoke with the manager, who wrote his name as Nurmuhammad. We verbally confirmed the couple's room rate and the registration slip required for foreign guests in Uzbekistan. At check-in we were assigned a room and handed over our passports; he said to pay in the evening. Around 7 p.m. he suddenly said that, as a couple, we had to pay for all four beds because a man could not share a room with a woman in Uzbekistan. That contradicted the mixed dormitory listing that had brought us there. He told us to pay the full price or find another hostel. We said that at that price we could stay in a good hotel, but it was already late to look elsewhere. Then two foreign male travelers arrived and were put in our room, so we ended up paying for only two beds. We asked for our change and registration slip. At first he said to wait, then said he'd give them to us at 8-9 the next morning. He didn't show up. He finally appeared at 11 a.m., the official checkout time, and again told us to wait. Once the other guests had checked out and only we remained, he blamed a computer system problem and said he couldn't process the registration. We pointed out that other hotels issue handwritten slips in that situation and showed him an example. Then his explanation changed to not having a printer. We explained that we're crossing the border by land and immigration officers sometimes ask for the paper slip because their database isn't always updated; without it, we could face fines. Eventually, he sent another staff member somewhere else to print it. By then it was 1 p.m. and our day's plans were ruined. The repeated excuses and contradictions left us extremely frustrated. When I said his unreliability and irresponsibility had wasted our time and caused needless stress, and that he should compensate us, he sneered and replied, “But I gave you the registration slip, didn’t I?”
