Grand Karavan Hotel

I can’t understand how this place has so many good reviews. It’s probably the worst hotel I’ve stayed at recently. Cleanliness is questionable, the bathrooms have a very odd smell, and the rooms feel old and weird. We stayed for four nights in total, split into two visits: two nights when we first arrived in Uzbekistan, then two more after returning from Samarkand. Since we were there for four nights, they said they’d provide free airport pickup and drop-off. On pickup day, they sent a ridiculously small Chevrolet Spark that could barely fit us with our luggage. When we came back, they didn’t even follow through on the promised airport drop-off. During the first two nights we had a large double room. The bathroom smelled funny all the time, its fixtures were rusted, the old bed linen had a yellowish tinge, and the room was dark and dingy. After enduring it for two nights, I wanted to cancel the next booking and stay elsewhere, but we had left our luggage at the hotel to go to Samarkand. I messaged them to say we disliked the older room and would pay more for a better one. When we returned, we paid extra and expected an improvement, but what a disappointment. The room was big, yet shabbier than the first. The sheets weren’t just yellow, they were torn in several places. The bathroom was so cramped it was almost impossible to wash my face in the basin. The floor kept getting wet, and the faulty drainage left water sitting there, flooding the bathroom. It had that same super weird smell. We paid more for an even worse room. Breakfast was severely limited and not at all good. Their plates are strangely tiny, about six inches, so you have to get up at least three or four times to get your food. The only relatively good thing was that some staff were trying to help. Other than that, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone ever.
