Hotel Alex

For $60 a night, I expected better. I was there for four nights, and each day they left just one small 355 cm3 bottle of water. The coffee maker came without coffee, and finding a little cockroach in the ice bucket was gross. After cleaning, they didn't promptly replace the toilet paper or soap, so I had to ask. The hotel needs better organization and management. I wouldn't recommend it.

The lobby looks really nice, and the room looked good once I got there. But they wouldn't let me see the room beforehand, so I had to rely on the video playing on the TV screen. There were a few problems inside: dim lighting, a broken shower that poured water like a waterfall, and just one towel with no hand towels. If you're fine with those things, it's a nice, very inexpensive place.

The rooftop terrace and pool were the best part of my three-night stay. It had a really nice atmosphere, and on Friday night there was live music and a nice crowd. My room on the seventh floor was very clean and quiet, with no windows facing the outdoor street. I also had a great experience with the food at the capoeira restaurant. The staff were super friendly, the juices were amazing, and I'd recommend the house specialties, all the dishes called "capoeira". The gym is quite good too, though the music is a bit too loud and you need to bring your own towel. The internet connection was good enough for work and downloading files or movies, but I had to log in again now and then because locking my phone would disconnect it. Even so, I strongly recommend the hotel.

The staff were the biggest problem for me. They seemed unmotivated, unreliable, and mostly unfriendly, with little service sense, people skills, or empathy. I can't say if that's the Venezuelan standard, but I plan to change hotels. I was meant to stay three weeks, and one is definitely enough. The building itself is completely new and looks good at first, but after only eight months in business there were already visible abrasion marks from very poor maintenance. I'd give the building three stars and the staff one.
