Sand Castle on the Beach - Adults Only

The beach, pool, staff, and outdoor area made this a really satisfying stay. The cafe has brand new loungers, and we loved the cauliflower bites and Thai Chicken dish. We could bring the unfinished wine back to our room. Chris was fun to talk with and knew a lot about the area. The beach and water were lovely, too. Our room was just right, with a small water view and patio. It was very clean, had a comfy bed, good water pressure, and AC that worked well. Josh checked us in, carried up our bags, and made us feel at ease. There was also a nice welcome gift. We got towels and lounge covers, which are much better than clipping a towel to a chair, then found two chaise loungers on the beach. Getting there was the rough start. My wife and I flew in from Miami, where we live in Florida, and I’d read a lot about fares to the hotel. I’d been assured the taxi to Sand Castle would cost $25, but it was $55. The driver wasn’t happy about not getting a tip, and I wasn’t happy either. We learned to use VI Hail. The ride back to the airport was $26, and we gave that driver a very generous tip. Download the app, and make sure you get VI Hail. We didn’t rent a car since we mainly wanted to lounge, maybe snorkel a bit, and read. I’d suggest renting one if you plan to do activities, sightsee, or visit Frederiksted or Christiansted. We used VI Hail for dinner in town at Flyers, which was excellent, but walking into town for lunch or dinner saves the $20-26 fare each way. Walking back at night is safe, though some areas aren’t normally recommended. On our last night we walked into town, had drinks at the Fred, with its wonderful views and great bar scene, then went to the Lost Dog Pub for good music and people, and ate at Alba's. The lights went out as we walked home, so we waited for our ride at The Fred. We were surprised it didn’t have a generator. Sand Castle did, and it was nice to return to a fully lit place. The trip was almost all positive. Several couples we met were on their second or third trip back to Sand Castle, which says something. We’ll be back too. I have type 2 diabetes and would like the bar to offer some zero sugar or lower sugar drinks and mixers. Breakfast could use more options as well. The breads were very good, and a hard boiled egg is always good protein, but more zero or low sugar drinks would be welcome.

We’ve already booked another visit for next year, and I can’t wait to return. Sand Castle was such a lovely resort, with a beautiful site that was kept clean and in great shape. Our suite was very comfortable, and I could hear the surf all night. The staff were friendly and caring. I almost hesitate to say how much we liked it, in case it gets harder to book.

The location has gorgeous views and is less than a mile from the Frederickstead pier and shopping. The hotel advised renting a car, and I agree, it makes it easier to get around. Parking is free. There’s plenty to enjoy right by the beach, just steps away: snorkeling gear, kayaks, two gorgeous pools, and lots of chairs and umbrellas. We stayed in a villa. The bed felt a little too firm for me and my back, so they went and got a mattress topper. Everyone was kind and helpful. The restaurant food was amazing, especially the scene castle salad with grilled chicken. The staff were thoughtful and so kind. This was the most beautiful, amazing place. Don’t miss it. I’d give this hotel 15 stars if I could.

The restaurant right on the beach is a bonus, and the staff are amazing. The owners are present and kind. We especially love Josh, who always looks after us and gives great recommendations, then follows up. We’ve just had another enjoyable 10 nights at The Sand Castle on the Beach. We’ll be back next year!
