The beach and views were beautiful, but that’s the main reason this gets two stars. The woman at check-in was helpful with recommendations and answered our questions. That’s where the good part ended. My boyfriend and I stayed at Crystal Cove for five days, March 25 to 31. The apartment needed repairs and updates, though they warned us at check-in that work would happen after we checked out. What we weren’t told about were the nightly power cuts, every night around 8 p.m. The first night, we’d just stepped out for the bar next door when the whole stretch of beach went dark. Lights came back in under a minute, or so we thought. When we returned from the bar, there was no indoor power in any unit on the property. We walked around the grounds and along the beach to get out of the hot unit, and saw that other properties had generators running. Crystal Cove seemed to be the only one without them. I called the property manager using the number in the guidebook and was told the island was “on rotation,” whatever that means, that this happened “sometimes,” and the power would be off for around two hours. It came back after about that long. The next night, it went out again at around 8 and stayed off for about two hours. The third night it was roughly three hours, the fourth about four. On Sunday, our fifth night, we got back from an outing to the dark, warm apartment, as we’d come to expect, and went for another walk while we waited. This time the power never came back. When we checked out at 11 Monday morning, the entire property was still without power. People on the sidewalk stopped us to ask if we were checking in and warn us it had been out since 8 the previous night. We appreciated them looking out for new arrivals, especially since the office hadn’t told us anything. We raised the repeated, nightly disruption with the woman at the office and asked about compensation. She said she couldn’t help, gave us the property manager Ms. Adele Georges’s name and number, and said she was just leaving the lot as we spoke. I’ve called Ms. Georges several times, and a week later she still hasn’t returned my calls.

Our condo had recently been renovated by joining two units together, and the host was very helpful. There are restaurants, a bar, and a coffee shop close by. The taxi stand is in the same spot, which made it easy to get a ride quickly.

We liked the updated house so much that we’ve decided to skip other island stays and return to Crystal Cove next year. It felt like a home away from home, only with a beach. The house was larger than the condos we’d stayed in before, and parking at building D was better. The beach is very close from building D. A few times, local tenants and the worker combing the beach asked where we were staying while we sat in the beach chairs. Alley parking behind building D is limited and fills quickly, but a space there puts you right by the door. We chose the place for its proximity to Sapphire Beach, since we’d stayed in those condos before and wanted a change. Red Hook is nearby, with fresh food markets, restaurants, and things to do. Koki Beach and Coral World aren’t too far either. Compared with other places we’ve stayed on the island over the years, this had a lot of advantages.

The weekend got pretty crowded, even though the location is great and it’s usually quiet. The beach was clean and tidy, and the resort provides free chairs, so there’s no need to bring your own. It’s a fun spot for snorkeling and paragliding, and there’s also a good restaurant on site. Our room was well maintained and furnished with plenty for a vacation, including beach towels and toys for the kids. My main concern was the glass wall at the front with no curtain. Light from outside bothered us quite a bit. We enjoyed our stay overall 🤗

Nice beach with calm, clear water for swimming and snorkeling. It’s the Virgin Islands.
