Colony Cove Beach Resort

The property is beautiful and the staff are friendly and professional, but Condo 203A was a very rough stay. It hasn’t been updated since the 80s, and the furniture was worn and dirty. The living room rug was filthy, the shower tiles weren’t clean, the shower head was green with corrosion, and the stove knobs were greasy. The bedroom ceiling fan screeched all night, so I had to leave the TV on to drown it out enough to sleep. The living room curtains didn’t meet or reach the floor, leaving us without privacy from the surrounding condos in the living room, kitchen, and dining room. I’d planned to cook, but the pots were scratched inside, the baking sheet was rusty, and the dishes were chipped and mismatched. The eating and cooking utensils were disgusting. The dish sponge was brown and worn, and its holder was full of mold. The doorknob was dented and left us locked out when we arrived, and we had to prop the door open when going in and out. There also weren’t enough parking spaces, so parking was a nightmare. The on-site restaurant is open whenever they feel like it. I was there for a family function and couldn’t leave.

The rooms were fantastic and very comfortable, and both the property and beach were beautiful. The seaweed smell, though, was strong and overwhelming.

We spent a week in the condo with my husband and parents, and it was perfect for us. The pool was very nice and well cleaned, and there were swim noodles, life jackets, and other beach and swimming things to borrow from the hut. We enjoyed morning walks along the beach, where we spotted lots of hermit crabs and an octopus one morning. It would’ve been nice to have stairs from the lounge chairs down to the beach itself. In our unit, the patio light didn’t work, and laundry soap, dishwashing soap, and tissues that we’d been told would be provided were missing.

The view was picturesque, the beach was wonderful, and I really enjoyed my week in St Croix and the accommodations. The staff were pleasant, though scarce. There were a few things in our condo that needed repair: the living room fan/ac unit didn’t work, the bathroom door kept coming off its track, and the fridge didn’t get very cold. I know the condos have different owners, so units can vary a lot. I’d recommend the property, with the caveat that renovation work on a whole building of condos may make a visit in the near future noisy.
